have not been on because my hard drive on the computor crashed. does anybody know anybody that can recover all the pictures and details from the hard drive. please

speak to a local computer technician - they may be able to recover data unless it crashed because of one of those virus that has damaged everything. It can be done...a guy at work just got all our pictures off a PC that had a crashed hard drive...and its now repaired and up and running again...

I blow a hard drive about every 6 months with all the graphics and programs I use so I have an external hard drive called My Book. As innvic say's they are worth there weight for sure!

I am currently going to replace my fried graphics hard drive with a 500 sata to see if I can fry them less. And because I have the external its a case of pulling out the old and slotting the new in and I am back in business (after having to reload all the graphic programs again)

are you sure its the hard drive and not the processor? And do you have the original OS disc that came with your pc? sometimes it has a partial recovery on the disc and will back up files, not data, you would have to reload all programs back but photos docs etc would be safe. But I would have a pro look first and try to recover your data first. The other thing you can do if its the processor that has fried is do you have another pc? inside there will be a cable with an empty slot plug in the hard drive and pull off all your files on the other pc! but again you would have to know if the processor or hard drive has gone! But I would not attempt if you are at all uncomfortable going in to the bios.

maybe i am saying the wrong thing all know is the shop had to pt a new hard drive in and said he could not get anything of it. he said it would not start up.
which is very annoying as it only went in because it would not let me on the internet.

That seems strange. If your hard drive is working, you might be able to access the files by putting it in an external case and hooking it up to your computer via a USB cable. The second step is to use a recovery programme on it.

However, if your hard drive was clicking when you last used it, don't access it at all, as it means your hard drive is physically deterioating and will worsen every time you use it or access files from it. Send it to a data recovery centre to get the files recovered. They'll recover pretty much everything.

if it would not start up that sounds like the processor!!! usually a fried hard drive keeps looping! turning on getting so far and restarting.

we use www. carbonite.com back up- its inexpensive and backs up data - only reason why I say this is cos we had one fo those external drives and that fried too!!

I used a program called Recover my files. You have to buy it, (approx $60). It recovered about 50% of my files (that were not damagaed by virus or HD error.

If the hard drive will not even start up, then you may have a 'level 3 failure' This is not usually a thing that a geek squad type of place can do. There is a place (in Texas I think ) where FBI, law enforment etc send HD's which need data lifting off them. It's not cheap though and prices are around $1500-$2000 for the work.
