E-2 renewal advice

I am an attorney and divide my time between Vermont and Florida. I am not surprised by some of the quotes I have seen from both London and US lawyers. An initial E-2 is quite a lot of work and may justify significant fees. But as long as the business is doing well, the extension is more of an update, and should be significantly less.

I would caution against accepting advice from non-attorneys (especially "consultants"). My advice is always to have at least a consultation with any attorney, then decide to go forward with that person, or do it yourself. Comments welcome!!

You say an update should cost less??? Unfortunately it is not, fees go up every year. We have had our immigration lawyer over 12 years , he is an honest and good one, this time we are doing all the paperwork ourselves as we cannot afford another $5000 -$ 6000. After our last ordeal wen we got only 2 years ( after 2 times 5 years for this business).
So where are those thrustworthy lawyers who charge less for an update?????

I can only speak for myself and colleagues who I know. Fees vary greatly depending on where the attorney is located, his/her overhead, the size of the firm, etc. If your business is doing well, the renewal can be done for much less. As this is not a legal or business forum, please write
