No doubt this has been discussed many times somewhere but when looking for an immigration lawyer is it better to use one based in the UK or based in USA. All suggestions welcome

It is more important to choose an immigration attorney who has a proven track record and imho it is better they are trading in the uSA, member of www.aila. or a Bar assn

If you are looking to move to Florida then sear the Florida Bar assn, or if you wish to live in CA the CA bar assn

Do you have any special skills, looking for a business or hoping for a job offer?

It also depends upon which visa you are applying for. If its something that needs renewing (E2 L1 etc..) then someone in the US with experience of London or other Embassys or extending status would make sense, also you may need to or consider using another embassy if London doesn't improve soon as many on here have. In that case a UK based attorney may not have the flexibility. If its a striaght to GC visa with no more hassle in the US then a British attorney would work just as well. What visa you after and what do you plan to do...tell all :-)

I would spend the extra and go for one in London. I wouldn’t trust any US lawyer when dealing from the UK. You can visit those from the UK them face to face for a small consultation fee to begin with the float your ideas. They are very professional - but more money but there fee is probably- only going to be 1-3% of your total spend on a project. There is also a panel of UK lawyers that regularly meet with the US embassy to liaise about what is required by the pen pushers from Grosvenor Square
