Just come back in via Miami. The POE didn't put a date on the I94. When we pulled him up over it he said, and I quote.
"What do you need a date on it for, I know you're here, you know you're here, why do you need a date?"
This almost beats the one in Charleston who didn't know what an E2 was and would only date the I94 to the same date as my previous one, which hadn't been taken off me before I left the country.
Perhaps the rules are getting too complicated even for those who should know them.

The date is in their computer. Just try and lie on the date you were admittted and see what happens!

Should have made it clear, it was the I94 expiry date that wasn't written in.
You need an 'expiry' date on your I94 for your driving licence renewal, don't you? Or are their computers linked? Possibly?
No intention of lying, then again, I had no intention of writing my own date in either.

If you have problems with licenses, you could always make an appointment for an Infopass at Tradeport, have known people do that before when they have I-94 problems, when they havent been given the two years for example ( how do you know if you have been given two years if no end date??)
Where did you go to to gateway in through Miami?? Just wondered if you went back to Panama?? We went to Costa Rica for our I-94, no problems with it on return but have crossed it off our retirement destination list!

Well congratulations at least they gave you some time but you should not have received any hassle, they are supposed to know their jobs after all said and done

Yes, am amazing place, although a bit diassappointed with the amount of tourists who were there last thing at night and first thing in the morning. We did a tour of the west coast of Central & South America. Mexico, Guatamala,Costa rica, Equador,Peru and Chile.
I guess I'm getting out more.:D:D:D:D:D

No problem Peter. This medium is one of the hardest to convey what one mmeans and misinterpretations are common. Apologises.

Oooh, looks fab, I am jealous!! Always been on my list to go to. Did you drive up ( not hike!!) We went to Costa Rica a few weeks ago for 1-94, very wet! Rain forest was interesting though.
Anywhere on there on the retirement list?? Costa Rica has a lot of US retirees, we met a couple from Seattle and they seemed happy enough, but I did not feel I could live there.

Getting there is an adventure on it's own. You have to fly from Lima to Cusco. Catch a three hour train journey to Auguas Calinetes then a bus up a hair raising, don't look down road to Machu Picchu. If I had been younger I would have loved to have climbed Huyana Picchu.......... but I know my limits.:)
Wasn't really giving retirement a thought, though we liked Costa Rica and Equador. Panama is still very high on our list of places to retire.

Where did you go in Costa Rica?? We went to La Fortuna which is where the retirees were, very quiet and remote and wet while we were there, and San Jose scared me to death, scary place particularly at night.

Puntarenas. I didn't really see much of the town as we went kayaking down the coast where the jungle meets the sea. Breathtaking beauty.
Sorry this thread has gone way off topic.
Re: San Jose. It's funny how first impressions can affect your opinion. I don't mean that in a negative way, though it's a point worth exploring as to why we choose certain areas to live and what affects those decisions.
But that's for another thread. :)

Mrs DYT came back from a cruise in March. Neither her I94 or passport were taken off her on departure. On return to the US the POE didn't even look in her passport for the visa and waved her through. When she asked for a new I94, he said that you don't need one. She replied, "Yes we do, I'm a British citizen." to which he replied,"No you don't we don't do them anymore."
Daughter was waved through without looking at her green card or passport.
Port was Miami - cruise to several islands.

Cruises are always iffy I-94 wise. I think you have to make a point of them taking it out on departure, and then sometimes they wont. Seen a couple of posts on other forums about this. If you need a new I-94 a flight anywhere even the Bahamas seems to be safer than a cruise.

Maybe this was why he said they no longer do I-94's?????
