Just heard from my lawyer that did my renewal last year in Barbados, that they are no longer accepting E2 renewals unless applicants are resident in Barbados. This is bad news indeed. It was a lifeline to many, myself included.

How about bahamas, mexico and those kinds of places, would they help:)
saves a lot of people travelling back to the UK, if they want to renew?
Or is this not possible?

Yes, there are still places apart from london that will do renewals.(But for how long?) Just shows how tenuous it all is, though. Not like we don't have enough to worry about.

It had to happen didnt it?? They do one or two and then get inundated and dont want to know any more and put a stop to it. Only time before the other countries do they same. They dont HAVE to do them, it was a favour.

What about the people who already have appointments there - eg the people from Maine are going there on the 1st of March. I really hope they don't have more bad luck

Yes, I immediately thought of them. What a nightmare. I just hope they honour existing appointments. I have e-mailed my lawyer to see if she knows.

Yes, she said she is pretty certain that they will honour existing appointments. So that is some good news at least.

Well, I did e-mail her, but I've not heard back from her yet.
What you are suggesting is that Barbados (and other places) are easier places to get renewals? Surely it isnt as devastating as this thread makes out as long as your business meets the criteria?
If it doesnt, then a renewal shouldnt be expected?

It's another door closing for many that don't want to play Russian Roulette with London. And yes, I do believe the London Embassy is marching to it's own drum.:)

From this thread - am I to understand that renewals could be obtained in countries other than the original country of residence. I for one would LOVE not to have to go to London for an interview ever again - it made me ill for months ahead of time - and to think our whole future/dream hinged on one person behind a window and what kind of day he was having.
I would love to have a rock solid application for renewal - but like many businesses my figures are somewhat lighter than I had hoped! I am going to see if I can delay my renewal for at least 3 months to allow me to present 2010 figures as support instead of just part of the year (E2 expires September 9th 2010).
Back to my question - where else can one go to obtain a renewal and how does it all work - all input greatly appreciated!

Denise,
It is called Third Country Nationals (TCN). You can find out if a particular embassy or consulate will do them by going onto the State Dept website and clicking on the respective embassy/consulate. That will take you to THEIR site. From there simply browse their site till you find what you are looking for. Canada used to do them, but now focusses on Canadian E2'rs. Mexico does still do them to my knowledge. Jamaica does.
You are right it does make financial and time sense to renew more local to the USA rather than going back to your home country. The USA would prefer everyone to go back to their home country to do renewals, in fact they would prefer if we all left and didn't come back if the truth were known. We are an inconvenience to them for the most part.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Chris for the info - does anyone have a success story to share by renewing in another country for UK renewal of E2?

Denise...if you search on EV you will come across several threads about successful renewals in embassies/consulates other than the home country. Answering Peter's post, Denise will have to check each one out herself to find out whos' doing them and who's not.
