Just to say we finally closed after three months of delays. Off to the coast for a few days holiday and then back in the UK a week today. Going to stay in the UK and rent for six months, got my sons wedding in June, want to get to know my granddaughter etc. Not sure after that, maybe Europe?? Moving back here wasnt the best of financial moves to say the least, but at least we are going back with some capital unlike many I have known who go back with naught. Glad to report Matt is doing great in Korea.

My son may have a job in North Korea with United Emirates
Does your son like it there and would you be prepared to link him up by e mail with my 26 year old grad of USF very sporty and pro English with a passion for MCFC
Good luck in the UK and hope you find what you are looking for
The past 2 years have made us for the first time question why we gave up a lucrative life for the sun but we always say you cannot put the clock back and have to look forwards

Good luck Julie..please keep us up to date...

Peter I've never questioned our move here..had we stayed in the UK hubby would of been out of work for the last 9 years like most of his work mates who never moved abroad..
Not that we came here for the sun..if work had been at the north pole we would of gone..

Do you really mean North Korea??? My son is in South Korea, Seoul to be precise which is a lot different to North Korea, Matt cannot cross the border!!! He has only been there a month but seems to be doing great. Yes of course.

Good luck Julie. Light at the end of the tunnel. Significantly you titled the thread, "Going Home". Perhaps that says it all.

Not wishing to hijack Julies thread, but I'd be interested to know what has made you question your stay here.

DYT simple answer as we grow older and poorer I wonder if we ever will be able to afford to retire here as when I receive Medicare we will have to pay about $400 a month supplemental health insurance to get 100% free medicine and treatment for both of us and as bad as it is in the UK it is free !!

I wonder if it will remain free. I forsee means testing for some procedures. ( I also see pensions being mean tested as well.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I can't see how the government can afford all the social benefits it currently is funding.

Don't count on it being free Peter my mum was asked for ten thousand pounds to do her op..she was classed as too old unless she paid...lucky her doctor pulled some strings and she got something else done..but only after 6 months of not being able to breath..the doctor I asked here about it could not believe she was sent home with no oxygen..
And someone pays for it..it is not free..

Nice idea for a new thread. I'd be really sad and get sky TV and watch as much live football and rugby as possible. Oh and open an internet betting account.

Don't think Mrs DYT would be too pleased. Then again, she'd probably be in Marks and Spencers buying Choux buns and prawn sandwiches.

See my granddaughter, shop in Marks and Sparks, eat real fish and chips and go to a country pub and see some Spring flowers. Have been told they are late this year so still some about.

the other way round would be more of a challenge !!

Incidentally peter -is the NHS really 'free' - our NI bills used to be silly until we took advantage of the dividends way of paying oursleves. then add on top £175 per month for PHI as the NHS is in such a poor state (MRS S is a nurse so she knows better than most). our local NHS trust was slated for applaing mortality rates due to cdiff/MRSA !!!so effcetivley our 'free ' NHS was costing us well over 500 a month plus the top up...

Julie,
Was this this just a literary slip or had you noticed that you'd entitled your thread going HOME. Deep, deep down you still consider the UK 'Home'. Just an observation.
I have seen this before where people make the move to live in the US or wherever and then continue to call the UK 'Home'. Some on Forums (you know one on FF & the Range River' who was having great difficulty settling here and kept talking about 'Home' and visiting 'Home'. It wasn't until it was remarked to her that she had moved here with her family and here was 'Home' now. When she grasped that concept, she began to settle down. I wonder how many more fall into that category.
Surely 'Home' is where the heart and your immediate family unit is.

When I was in the UK we used to phone my mother in law to say we'll be coming home for Sunday lunch..my son has no lived with us for years but he phones to say he'll be coming home ...
I think you can have more than one place you call home...we have two houses and both feel like home when we are there and we miss them when we are not there..

Julie, so happy to hear that you have finally closed on your property. Wish you all the luck in the world in whatever you decide to do, but I would put the "getting to know your granddaughter" at the top of your agenda! As far as I am concerned my grandchildren are everything to me and knowing that I can see them more or less when I want is the bonus for me about returning here. Unfortunately I will only get to see my youngest every now and again because her parents have parted, but hey still trying to look on the bright side, at least she isn't 12,000 miles away - living in Eastbourne. The perils of moving abroad I'm afraid.

Anyway, good luck to you and hubby - keep us posted.

Love Anniexxx

Good luck with your move back home. I can honestly say I never ever thought I would come back but I truly love being here in the UK. Just booked holiday to Croatia for some sun, looking fwd to that. We went for a walk in the country park near by yesterday and it was totally beautiful the view was amazing when we got to the peak, I stood for a while and thought how I never appreciated this country until I left it and come back home. Home is where the heart is and the family and England is my home xxxx

Went down to Eastbourne the Saturday before last to see Heather, first time in 15 months so was great to get together with her again, she just flew into our arms and can't wait until Brian is able to bring her back here for a few days. The parting of the ways stinks but .....!!! What business does your Mum own Jill? Obviously Brian is down there every Saturday, must admit I did like the area. Heather has started school down there and people seem to be very friendly. Just wish we could see her more often, as does Brian - not a happy boy at the moment.

Lorraine, know what you mean about the scenery - it is a beautiful country but unfortunately when the Florida bug strikes you forget about everything else and nothing, but nothing seems right with the country. Been there, got the t-shirt, but we are now talking about visiting places we have never visited whilst living here before and will just appreciate what we have.

Have considered Florida home for 7 years on and off. But we have had quite a long while now thinking about going, and have started to think more of the UK as home since then. Since we closed on the house and got rid of the business, must admit this doesnt feel like home any more, feel like I am back as a holidaymaker. I agree home is where your immediate family is, but since our son Matt left and our best friends ( E-2) also left last Christmas, there is only me and Terry here now and we have a son and a daughter, their partners, and a grandchild in the UK....

I've not posted on here in a long time, but thought I would change that to wish you and Terry all the best, with the next stage of your life. I know you are looking forward to seeing your family again, especially your granddaughter. You've picked the right time to return to the UK, with hopefully the worst of the winter behind you. You've always been a fountain of knowledge to others over here on visas and probably know more about it than some so called visa consultants. LOL

Best of luck with whatever you choose to do next and hopefully see you on Monday.
