Hey Hi everyone just another frustrating day in sunny florida. We want to buy a truck for our business as we are hiring one nearly on a daily basis. We have found the truck and all that is sorted. INSURANCE what a night mare we phoned progressive who our car insurance is with and they quoted us 11000 yes eleven thousand and they would insure our staff 21 upwards but not myself or husband as we have not been driving for 3 years in Florida :( amazing we been driving before the lad that works for us was born. We have been phoning around and getting same response from everyone. HELP does anyone else have there own truck and not been driving here for 3 years and got insurance. Oh and the quotes went from eleven thousand with progressive to state farm saying 1800 but again wouldnt insure us:mad: I look forward to hearing from some one who knows of a company. Thanks Kind regards Lorraine

Oh Lorraine, I wish I knew how to answer this for you, but I am stumped, we had a problem at first with insurance 3 years ago, it cost us an arm and a leg, that was with progressive, after getting our SS numbers we then switched to State Farm, and our insurance was halved!!!!! We deal with a guy called Tim Tran at their office in Champions Gate, here is his phone number, please try them again he is really helpful and a lovely bloke,407 390 7275 or 866 390 7275, hope this helps:(
You have nothing to lose I would have thought, please let me know how you get on, btw are you on a UK license or a Florida one, cos this doeas make a difference, if you want to mention our name please feel free:(
Good Luck

, it cost us an arm and a leg,

How do you manage to drive?
Do you have a specially adapted vehicle now?
Surely the costs of a handicapped pass etc. is more of a burden than the initial cost of the higher insurance. ???

Lorraine,
Wer'e with Encompass who cover us for business and personal on a GMC Safai minivan which is classed as a truck. Along with a soft top we have, we pay about $1600.00 per year. We like them cos they issue 12 month policies and we get free breakdown cover as well.
You might also try a company called www.responseinsurance.com. You will see it is none other than Direct Line from Britain who are now doing business in the US. Someone on another forum said they'd saved 48% over their Progressive policy. Give em a click

Hi Lorrainne
we are with progressive and each truck was $8000 for the 1st 6 months and when weve just renewed it is now $5000 per truck, we are told it should be $4000 at next renewal which is the same as we were paying in UK
hope this helps

Hi thanks Julie and Sue yes tried all state they wont insure us as we not had florida driving licence for 3 years. We tried geico and they not interested. Progressive only one at the moment that will take us they started at 11000 but if we take one of our staff off (who is the truck driver by the way) he is 24 they will then do it for 3800. This looks like the only one that will do it so we can drive it. Tried the little red phone they dont do commercial, but thanks anyway chris. I shall keep at it. Oh and why I on does anyone know of a Temp agency??? We need workers at short notice for delivery and also setting up furniture. I dont know if it the same here as UK you call a temping agency and they supply the staff. Thanks kind regards Lorraine

It's locally known as "rent a drunk" ...so be careful.
I'm being very serious here. There's sooooo much work around that anyone who could legally or safely be employed is already in a job, so you are basically getting the absolute "bottom of the barrel" !!
Able Body is a staffing agency not far from your store that could help. There are a few in the same area close by, and some dodgy check cashing places surrounding them because none of these people have bank accounts. It's a bizarre existence, ...but hey, if you need 'em , then use 'em.
Good Luck,
Bobby

C'mon Lorraine,
You know there's not ONE British person in this town (under 70) working less than 5 days a week, sometimes more.
The only way I know it's the weekend, is because I play football on Sundays, otherwise every day just runs into the next and it's work work work.

True so true, Marc said the only way he knows it Sunday is that the work is different clean the cars, mow the lawns, paint the house, and then sleep on the sofa all afternoon worn out and getting ready for the next week of 14 hour days plus. Welcome to the sunshine state, if you are here to set up new business you wont be seeing the sunshine at all, lol lolxx
