I was thinking - almost all of you out there will have first discovered your future dream of 'a better lifestyle' through an initial holiday to America from your UK home.
Now that you are all out there, enjoying that lifestyle you yearned for, I wonder where do you go on holiday from Florida ?
I mean, have you been able to explore more of the beautiful state of Florida now that you are there, away from the immediate area where you spend your daily grind ? Or have you been able to travel to the many other interesting places in America now that they are relatively 'close' to you within the US. domestic flight networks ?
How do you spend your weekends, or when you kids are off school ? How do you enjoy all that extra leisure time your new lifestyle offers you ?
Also, how often do you all get to return home to see the family and friends you left behind in the UK ?

Hi Floridapete,
One of our reasons for moving here, was to enable us to see more of this huge continent. So apart form our weekend ventures around Florida, we have also visted New York at Christmas (just a short 2 hour flight away), Boston, Phoenix, and Sanfrancisco. All these places are now no more than 5 hours flying time, and with relatively cheap airfare too. We go back to UK once a year to vist family and friends also.
We hope to vist the keys this year.

We have had fun exploring Florida.
It is so huge a state with so much to see. We have been up as far as the panhandle and down as far as the Keys, east coast and west coast with everything in between.
Savannah is a good drive in a day and worth the visit. We also have visited Charleton SC, Charlotte NC.
One summer we drove through up the north eats coast stopping in Richmond VA, Washington DC, New Jersey (to visit NYC) and on up to Cape Cod. We have also visited Boston.
I have travelled on business to PA, NC, TX,TN but you don't get to see much when on business.
Now our kids are in college or just about to go to college we expect to travel more, maybe see the south west.
On weekends we spend time working in the garden, laying patios, eating out and spending time with the kids when they are home. DH goes camping with friends once in a while.
We don't really do the beach thing, we have a pool in our neighbourhood and other facilities. We just live a quiet, normal life - it's just warmer here!

There you go again Pete...making the assumption that we're all in Florida :-) ..
We actually did a "road trip" last spring and visited Florida (our first time)...okay it was Orlando :-) didn't really like it that much, I was uncomfortable with the crowds. I do know that its not representative of most of Florida so don't jump on me! I guess I've just got used to the Vermont pace of life. 630,000 in a state the size of England! We've spent time exploring our beautiful state which changes exponentially each and every season. We've also been to NY, New Hampshire, Maine, Spent some time in Boston, had a week in Georgia (which we loved) Explored Arizona, done the Grand canyon and of coursethe ubiquitous trip to Las vegas.. Love it all but theres no place like "home" (and I don't mean old Blighty!)

A nice topic Pete...I've traveled in the USA more from the UK than I have living here...we do a road trip to FL once a year...and spend a lot of time there because of the house....can't wait to move to FL so we can go somewhere else...put against other States FL is boring...
Hubby has 6 weeks off...so we can travel more than a lot of other people living in the USA...but now its money and time...we live near the sea and our house takes up most weekends both summer and winter with repairs...
The cost of living also stops us traveling...hubby brings homes more in the USA then he could ever do in England....but it does not go very far...
People spend thousands to visit Cape Cod...and I do love it here....I hate the fact that we like many other people are being priced out of the area...because of the cost of living...
The Cape is now home....not sure about America...I will be more sad to leave this place even with all the worries and upsets I've had living here than I was to leave my home in the UK....I do love the UK and would go back to live in parts of it if I had the money....but I'm not homesick....I have gipsy blood that may help...I miss places...but moving on is a great adventure...:D
