Hi Sheila,
Good posting. Hopefully because of the non response there is nobody on the site who is unduly worried - good thing too!!
I just feel for the people it will affect and hope and pray that it doesn't touch the lives of too many.
Speak soon.
Love

Only one person has died so far. It is a miracle of technology when you compare it to earlier similar crashes with older trains.
They are saying these new Virgin trains that have been built with safety as the upmost priority. It derailed at 95 miles an hour and the driver is being hailed as a hero for trying to control the train once it derailed at this point who himself is in hospital at the moment.
The driver's car eventually flipped over breaking from the rest of the train, the remaining cars fell sideways down an embankment, and despite all this, none of the windows broke, the train did not crumple, like with older models and because of that things are no where near as bad as it could have been.
Questions are now being asked of Network Rail about the safety of the tracks, particularly after something similar seven years ago. Initial reports are due out later today.

Terrible news! Network rail has admitted points on the track were not properly maintained causing the train to derail. The exact same thing that happened five years ago repeated again.

The sad thing is there has been various documentaries on the issue and I am so surprised such a catastropic mistake has gone undetected! It makes me wander how many other problems there are on the tracks at the moment that have gone undetected.

Hi,I know it is so worrying as my sister who lives in the Uk uses the trains everyday ,its her only mode of transport and she always says she feels safer on the train than on the roads !!!

To be fair, I think I'd still rather use the trains than the road as the safer mode of transport. The rail network will be forced to double check everything after this.
The thing that bothers me most are the constant delays and overcrowding. It was funny that when I was living in DC, travelling in the Metro was quite suspicious relatively speaking but people were still getting very agitated during what Washingtonians call "rush hour". Then you compare it to the London underground - those DC travellers have no chance! Every single inch is taken by bodies during rush hour to the point that sometimes the doors have to keep opening and closing until it is shut. And there's no air conditioning yet! Although things are always improving. It's just so expensive. It costs over £6 for an off-peak one-day travelcard, let alone a peak ticket.
