Ted's an electrician, also does plumbing but I know he has work tomorrow. It's always the way isn't it when something becomes urgent. I know he is meeing someone Tuesday morning re a job but don't know then what his plans are. If you can't get someone sooner (like tomorrow) let us know.

Hi Annie,

How big a job re electrics does Ted do? i.e add additional outlets or can he wire a new house from plans?

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

I'm sorry don't know how long your post has been on here but just seen it!!

He isn't allowed to wire a house from scratch but can work on houses - re new outlets etc. If you need anything and want references I'm sure Bobby on this site would tell you what he's like (hopefully)!!!

Ted's crap. Hasn't got a clue what he's doing, and just sits around drinking tea and eating biscuits.

C'mon Annie, I need Ted all to myself! I'm not telling anyone else how good he is!

You're obviously back in town, so scare, Ted and tell him whenever he's ready, I got S***loads for him to do!

Cheers,

Bobby

PS. On a serious note, I've found Ted to be a breath of fresh air as far as contractors/workmen go, over here. He shows up when he says he will, and does what he says he's going to do, and all at a reasonable price. He's someone who wouldn't let you down, and a great phone number to have for any of you who may need electrical/handywork in the future.

Plumbing is easy enough in the USA...hubbys very good at it now....not sure if you have to have a real plumber do a job in FL...up on the Cape you can't find a workman for love or money....so you have to do everything yourself....and you don't need permits to breath up here....unlike FL....

What does qualifying as a plumber/electrician involve in the USA? We're so used to doing everything DIY. In the USA I don't think I would change (and no I am not one of those stereotype cheap Indians) but, except for MA, it seems you have to be qualified for everything that is DIY related. I can see myself moving to NY/DC/MD.

Our boiler conked out recently after 30 years of use and we can't fix it this time because the parts are no longer available (typical)! Anyway, over here we can't fit the new boiler because we're not corgi or similarly registered in the UK. And we're getting qoutes between £2,000 and £4,000. It seems much more efficient to get qualifed and DIY it.

I think I chose the wrong career! Maybe I should move into property development. Buy a piece of c**p, do it up, sell it and make millions!

The easiest part right now is buying. I'm seeing lots of good homes go through the court in foreclosure.

Selling them quickly for profit is another matter. The market has changed.

Though if you buy them right, I think you can still be the cheapest one listed and get out the other side ahead.

Let me know if you want in Munish. I've got loads of those "piece of crap" houses you mentioned! ;) Be glad to have you onboard.

LOL. In London it's the total opposite. The easiest part is selling, but the most difficult part is buying a piece of crap at a cheap price.

I know where they are, and what they cost, but it's a bit more complicated than a list of addresses and prices I'm afraid.
You'll need about $200,000 cash to get started, and I always say to people that if it's their life savings they are going to use, then think twice about it. It's not for the feint hearted. ...but there's also that saying "bigger the risk , ...the bigger the reward!"

PM me if you want any specific info on how it works.
