View Full Version : URGENT + Help needed for immigration reform

Florida Tax Watch has taken a lead in organizing a coalition to represent Florida employers and those interested in immigration issues and reforms. We have been able to represent expatsvoice at both a workshop day and teleconference calls.

It is encouraging to have a distinguished collection of employers, government agencies and those working within the legislative process band together to try to address some of the more confusing and restrictive policies and procedures regarding immigration. The coalition will seek to represent the supporters to both House and Senate members and is very interested in bringing forward the particular issues of Central Florida immigrants. While there is a strong body of supporters whose main interest is settling migrant workers issues there is an acknowledgment of and support for issues that have concerned many of our members. Particularly visa renewal, family separation, access at points of entry and just good old fashioned customer service.

This coalition is very aware of how dependant Florida is on tourist dollars and immigrant employers as well as having a fair number of immigrant employees in the State. There is an expectation that a new bill will be put before the House this week –possibly Thursday. They are working to lobby House and Senate members and get them to hear ‘our’ voice.

We thank the coalition for listening to the expatsvoice and look forward to working with them more closely. In the short term they need imperial data – facts – and we will be posting a poll to try to survey as many members / forum users as possible. We need to know what visa you originally came on, if you had renewal delays, what visa /status you currently hold and what – out of a narrow selection – has been your biggest problem. While this poll will not be a work of statistical brilliance due to lack of time it will give us and the coalition some much needed evidence to present to representative members. Please take the time to complete the poll when it is posted, help us to help you.
Thanks every one
:)

Just voted. Issue for me is the USCIS has not introduced rules on the Child Status Protection Act on retention of priority date after age out (INA section 203(h)(3), partly because some see it as having ambiguous statutory language that needs clarification.

Just to clarify, hardship cases should cover cases such as

Children aging out, landlocked in USA, Death of petitioner, Illness and need for UK relatives to come to the USA for more than 6 months to nurse loved ones etc.,

Down symdrome children or disabled children of E visa holders, as these children would not be able to attend further education and would have no way of getting a green card

Just voted - although I have not had any problems thus far and I have extended my original E-2 once and intend doing so again in a few weeks. This time may be more tricky as the original business that I came here for was forcibly taken off me by the management company for whom I held the license for, as well as forcing me out of business in a 2nd business that I purchased through their real estate division. I am now in litigation, and have bought a 3rd to try to keep my visa status and pay for the lawyers! Anyone else had any similar experiences? I would love some advice on how to proceed.

Peter - I WOULD their job - in fact I would do any job if they give me my freakin' green card - before I am too old to work!

From start to finish Hubby had his green card in six months or less. Then we moved to Florida so no problems here. We did do everything from England and ours was marriage based as we had married in England 7 years prior to applting for a visa. Now when we go to try for his citizenship there may be problems. I think he can apply in 2008

I just voted

You know I am looking at this whole thing I am wondering if a class action lawsuit would get this issue moving.

I mean they (Federal Government) are hurting businesses because of this. In my case they are actively removing my livelyhood right now, and the supreme court did rule money is equal to speech. Not to mention the bog standard way we as a group are constantly treated. It is almost like leagalised discrimination. There has to be a civil rights thing there.

Sue the Federal Government for the losses. I am sure you could get a couple of thousand people easy.

Might post about this in a different forum.

Have a day

Dumb question this, but how do I vote on this? There are no pointers to tell me how to vote? Nothing is interactive on my screen?? I click all over the poll but nothing happens. Do I have to have a GC and homestead to vote????

I still have no idea how to vote, yet my screen say I have voted. I think I need to call the Supervisor of Elections on this, somethings not quite right!!!.

Dee, the vote now button disappears once you have voted, so Chris may not be able to do so as he is being told he has already voted!

My button is not there, but to be honest I can't recall seeing it in the first place. I've spoken with the Supervisor of Elections and she said they will bring Kathleen Harris out of retirement to do a recount in Florida!!! So GW could get a renewal E2 with a GC to boot if she gets involved!
