It goes without saying all members are very proud of their troops for putting their lives on the line, and particularly the bravery our 15 in Iran who are enduring clear and humiliating duress.

I am sure all are following these events very closely and the point of this post is to visibly show support and that we are proud! The UK Government are working very hard on the issue.

The diplomatic channels have to be aggressively pursued for now, but I am very disappointed with the UN Security Council statement, which is watered down from what the British wanted. A formerly a kidnapped serviceman in Iran has said military action at this point is not possible and would not help the kidnapped troops. The idea of a special military storming Tehran is ludicrous in his words.

I'm completely behind the members of the British Armed Forces, although sometimes not enamored by the decisions of those in control of them.

I pray for a speedy and secure end to the situation.

Here, here Mun.
I too think the UN respnse is wishy, washy, but then again the responses from them on most things are.
From various press reports, Iran is increasingly isolating itself in the world over this hostile action, but we'll probably see and ending where both countries come out of it claiming victory.
We now see today a 2nd sailor 'apologising'. I think we all know the true reality and take it with a pinch of salt.
Oil has racked up increases this week because of the situation and I think we're all going to feel it in coming weeks at the pumps, certainly here in the US, where the oil greedy companies seem to work on the basis of 'if there is a 'y' in the day, put up prices'.
I'm not sure what the sabre rattling by the US with their 'exercises' is going to do to the situation. It's the old gunboat diplomacy mentality.
We wait, we pray and hope for their safe release.

Hi

Yes agree, what more can I add except Bush (IMHO) had no right to ignore the UN and go to war without their backing and should be ashamed of himself. He now has so much blood on his hands and caused so much untold amount of debt to America's people.

I am so glad to hear that the sailors are being released. On a simlar but different tack, I'd just like to let you all know that a very good Scottish friend of ours was also released today by Nigerian gunman after being kidnapped at gunpoint off his oil rig on Saturday in the Nile Delta. His identity wasn't known until yesterday and negotiations have been going on for a couple fo days behind the scenes. He was released along with 3 others this morning. His wife was in a real state as you can imagine. He was supposed to be coming to Florida end of last month and his company moved him temporarily to Nigeria at the last minute otherwise he would have been safe and sound in Florida.
