Hi there

Ok well we are now getting closer to moving to Rhode Island- tying up the ends for rental house for short term, found someone who can do a mortgage for us ( once sold house in Canada), now to the important stuff- entertainment. Does anyone have any suggestions about how we can get TV and phone service without any US credit? Are they open to prepayment or a deposit does anyone know please? Thanks appreciate your help- looking to be in USA for May 23rd!! We are done with all this snow in Canada !!!

Hi Britcan ,you could try Brighthouse we went with them when we first got here and we had no credit history for US,we had to pay a deposit though which was refundable i think, also try Vonage for your phone and internet, you would have to check up on that, but some people we know have only just got here and they have got it,anyway good luck hope this helps, take care.

Hi Britcan, We initially used Direct Tv and Bellsouth when we first moved over here and didn't have to pay a deposit on either (although the first month had to be paid in advance whichi is standard). We've since used Verizon and Brighthouse with all inclusive packages and haven't had any problems with them either regarding deposits and credit history. Good Luck

Hi,We have used both Verizon and Brighthouse with no credit history and found them both fine.

Don't think you can get Brighthouse in North East. We have Comcast here in Vermont, (no deposit one month prepay) or you can try Direct TV.

Oh well...we are planning to be near the coast so perhaps we will be lucky.Altho when we move May 23rd hopefully there won't be any snow!

Thanks everyone for the replies.. we are excited but scared at the same time!! We are driving down in convoy of 2 cars each with a dog and all the paperwork! Finally managed to get our clearance docs for our Canadian vehicles..dogs are having shots and up to date paperwork showing their rabies etc up to date.

Those of you who came from the UK- were you already here in USA or did you fly from UK If you flew what was your experience at the immigratin with the E2 visa in yur passport?:D

Hi Britcan, Once you have sorted your internet access, get signed up to vonage. They offer local, long distance and landline calls to Uk for 24.99. I think Canada may be included as well. They did not credit check us.

Hi Britcan,

I signed up for Vonage USA while still in Canada and I used to take the router with me to Canada whenever I wasnt in the USA (so I can use voip in Canada, that was when we got rid of Bell Canada). I even have a Toronto shadow local number so all my friends can call me in the USA for free. Vonage is good because I pay a flat fee and can call Canada and USA unlimited.

There could be trouble ahead at Vonage

It would not surprise me. You cannot maintain a company spending $344 per customer with an average spend of $24.99.
