Now we all know deep down that our kids get no cleverer by just crossing the ocean....so a few points worth passing on....kids of different countries are sometimes put in honour classes and given A's for work to give them a good start...not a good idea if you ask me...it gives you the parents the idea that your kids are doing very well...in a lot of cases that could be true...they will be way ahead of the kids over here....fine till boredom sets in or if you have a child that really does need help but is not getting it because he is getting those A's...catch 22....been there done that....I thank God its over for me from today.....

Always go to parents night...unlike in England you may not get to see work...ask for it....you must keep on top of your Childs English if nothing else....spelling mostly...
Take grades with a pinch of salt....its up to you to make sure your kids are learning to do more than pass an exam....
Don't be worried about going to the school and phoning every day if you must...this is your kids future....if you have to go back to the UK they will be lost and in a lot of cases way behind the kids at their English school...

If you know your kids are clever...make sure they are on a path to graduating at 16....most English kids do that in MA unless in a Tech school...because they are so far ahead...
Tech schools if you have one nearby are great for English kids....they have to work harder having only 2 years to fit in 4 years of normal High school work....it keeps your kids from being very bored...and gives them a trade...and no need for a collage degree...a great money saver if you are here on a greencard....and keeps your clever child in school those extra few years....

Remember your kids maybe held back to the level of the slowest kids in the class...don't let that happen...it can cost you a lot later on in catch up exams so your kids can Graduate...keep asking questions all the time....get any info about points need to Graduate and get it in writing....
Its up to you to know what your kids need...its up to you to make sure they don't fall behind....keeping on top of your childs school work will make life for both you and them a lot easier....more so in High School than anywhere else....

The other thing is school is much more like school than it is in the UK even up to 18. Even at 17, they are treated as little schoolkids, I had to do a notarised affidavit goving my son permission to come home for his lunch if he wanted!! And he was sitting at a little desk!!
