hi all,
im hoping that someone will be able to give advice and recommend a GOOD Indian Restaurant.
we have parents over to stay, very shortly and aswell as asking for a place to go and have a british fry-up, (which i have seen the latest posts, so will be going to the new place next to polo park) would like to go for a GOOD Indian.
You know the one, chicken tikka masala, naan bread and all that goes with such pleasures of eating a good indian. (so miss my indian restaurants!!)
so if anybody can suggest a nice one to take my parents where we can ENJOY the food, i would be extremely grateful.

hi all,
im hoping that someone will be able to give advice and recommend a GOOD Indian Restaurant.
Now that is bloody good question? I had to end up cooking my own Indian food because the quality of restaraunts in DC/VA/MD/NY was not all that good. And some were just plain bad. BLAND. BLAND INDIAN FOOD!!!! What is the world coming too? JUST MADNESS I tell you... MADNESS!!!!!!!!
May be I should scrap the LPR and open an Indian Restaraunt instead. :D
Where in the USA are you looking? If there is a "Delhi Dhaba" that might be acceptable. There were a couple in DC, which were okay.
One of the things I appreaciate in the UK without any hesitation is to food.
Traci, The Mughlai is excellent. It is in the 192, near to the junction of the 27. Phone number 863 424 6969.
I am Indian and this is the only place I will go to.

We go to the one on the 27 opposite Centerstate bank on the junction of Polo Park, I would say this is one of the best Indians we have ever had.

I know that restaurant on the 27 was supposed to be moving down the road to Cagans Crossing - opposite Walmart, over the other side of the 192.
Hope someone from up there can confirm that - it is our favourite indian restaurant as well.

There is a relatively good one called Spice of Life on US 27 - Berry Town Center Plaza, Davenport. Also supposed to be one in Longwood called the Clay oven. Most of the others are "pants" - and I'm indian so I am qualified to say so.

Everyone has different taste's ,I have heard bad reports on that particular one but have never tried it myself.
I think I'm "qualified"too as I am Anglo Indian.;)

That is a good idea. Cooking Indian food (and good Indian food for that matter) is not nearly as difficult as you may think. In fact it baffles me how it is possible to have bad Indian restaraunts, but somehow the USA has managed to produce them in an abundance.

Easy Dee, EEEEAAASY! I threw a dinner party for my old housemate in DC a couple of years ago.
On the list was Biryanis, Pakoras, Sag Paneer and a few other things (and everyone loved it)!!! I got five marriage offers that night. LOL. And to make the challenge more difficult I kept it vegetarian (as I am one).

Dee it's easy, but the problem is I don't work with "recipes." It just has to feel right, and that comes with experience.
I got the receipe below from the Internet, however, I would not worry about being strict about it, because that's when things go wrong.
For example, multiply all the ingredients by three or four otherwise you won't be satisfied with the servings. Also, if the first few aren't quite right who cares you got plenty more attempts. Be more generous with the tumeric (haldi) and coriander (cilantro) than suggested and have less red chilli powder but put more fresh green chillis. If you multiply the ingredients by four go for three three or four green chillis at first. Actually no, make at least four or five because green chillis in the USA are bland and lack kick. Mix some red onions with the white onions, they are far more tasty and make sure they are not super size so they have more potency (for taste).
For the batter mixture it says you should use water. In addition mix some yoghurt into the batter. It gives the batter a natural fluffy texure.
When you've done it once you can make adjustments and after a few attempts, I guarantee you will out perform the so called Indian restaraunts.
As for the oil you don't necessarily have to use sunflower oil. I use Vegetable oil and Olive oil interchangeably
Ingredients
100g/3˝oz white onion, chopped
25g/1oz spinach, chopped
35g/1Ľoz chickpea flour (also called gram flour)
1 tsp fresh root ginger, finely diced
1 tsp coriander seeds, toasted and ground
˝ green chilli, de-seeded and finely diced
pinch salt
pinch red chilli powder
pinch turmeric
sunflower oil, for frying
chaat masala, to serve (optional)
Method
1. Mix the onions, spinach, chickpea flour, ginger, ground coriander seeds and green chilli together with enough water to bind into a thick batter mixture.
2. Add the salt, chilli powder and turmeric and mix thoroughly.
3. Heat the sunflower oil in a wok for frying. The oil should come about 2.5cm (1 inch) up the sides of the wok.
4. Gently drop a little of the bhaji mixture into the hot oil to test it's hot enough.
5. When ready, place golf-ball sized amounts of the mixture into the oil. Reduce the heat and fry gently until golden in colour.
6. Remove from the oil and drain on kitchen paper.
7. Increase the heat of the oil and return the cooked bhajis to the wok and fry for a second time until crisp and golden brown.
8. Sprinkle with chaat masala, if you like, and serve.
Once you've got this one down, the next mission is aloo or mooli parathas (mmmmmm).

PS if you were serious and are going to attempt it, the actual frying time will take some time to start with, but as you progress the frying time speeds up as you put in the more barjis.
As for the curry, same principles. Use the Internet for the first attempt but make adjustments with the seasonings, chillis etc. For example, I love ginger to put more ginger than is generally suggested.

Yep, me too!
I cut and pasted it into an E-mail and sent it to my wife. She was sitting across from me in the office at the time, but she glanced across, raised an eye brow and carried on with what she was doing.
I think the message was, "of course I'll make those for you Darling! ....how soon would you like them?"
