HI Sharon,
Yes, we are members. Mark (my husband) is up for a meeting with them Thursday, he will mention Expat's Voice and thet them be aware.
The president of the BACC Orlando is actually an immigration lawyer. How compassionate he is to get involved I do not know.He is an excellent lawyer although some may not like to get involved . Worth a mention to see if he maybe able to help in some way.

Just so you all know what is being talked about here:
http://www.baccorlando.org/
The meeting on Thursday is, I understand, a Fish 'n Chip evening at the Cricketers Arms on International Dr., which should go down well. I saw it referred to in the "Across the Pond" blog in the Orl.Sent.
BACC of Central Fla. are a very good business group. I have been involved with them from time to time during ouyr winterings in Florida and have attended many of their meetings and events.
This is where you get to meet up with, not only your fellow ex-Pats, but also business Americans in the Orlando area.
Very useful for networking and 'getting involved'. Much more successful than any other "Brit expat." group than has ever tried - becaused it isn't just Brits ! :)

Can I just add that if anyone wishes to join the BACC Orlando, you may find that the site does not link you to an application form. You must call Nancie Cooney at 407-316 9988, Nancie will then fax you an application form. She can also be reached on ncooney@lavignelaw.us

Curiously, Katya, I saw that their website doesn't look like it has been updated since their "Fall Event 2002" was being advertised on there !
Doesn't look good does it ? Maybe somebody should tell them ? ;)

Well I know they are trying to generate more members, as you say it dosent look good if people cannot join or indeed see the events coming up.
I am in good contact with Nancie, so will see the reason why their site is in great need of updating/user friendly.
Hi Katya
Can you ask them to give a link to expats voice or any sort of assistance ?

Peter,
Yes, the website doesn't function correctly and when I spoke with Nancie Cooney (BACC sec) she was very aware and very embarrased by this.
For those interested as pointed out above the next meeting is this Thursday. It's $10 for non-members and I shall be attending, so hopefully will see you there?
Hi David
I think my Mum would like to go if someone could take her as she is unable to drive and might do her good
Any volenteers?

Well David as you are more aware as we are of the E visa implications, maybe you could mention the problems people face on this visa ?
I personally will not be there, although have asked Mark to mention Expat's Voice. Im sure many of you that may attend are on E visa's, so will have more understanding of the points you may wish to raise.
If any of you are attending I would let the BACC know, for numbers. They do ask for an RSVP.

Yes Mark, I will do all I can. The BACC Orlando was set up as a American/British Business association and is not part of the government, will do all we can to put the message out.

Kelly Griffith wants to know how it went ?
"How was chamber event?
Posted on Jun 23, 2006 6:54:15 AM.
I ended up getting the worst migraine late yesterday and when one of my sources didn't need a ride to the British-American Chamber of Commerce Fish-n-Chips afterall, I wound up going to bed.
Anybody know how it turned out?"
Hi Peter,
My mum did manage to get a lift go but it was very difficult for her as many people asked what was wrong with her leg etc., and the first time she has been anywhere apart from hospital and the odd trip to Publix since early May
Mum said said there were quite a few people there but only spoke to a few people and mainly brokers, realtors etc., She did meet David L and had a brief chat with him

Pleasant venue with a good turn out. Fish and chips were nice and certainly lots of business cards were being handed around. For me it was a good opportunity and I'm glad I went, met some very pleasant people including Susie and a few others whom I had been in contact with by email and phone.

And was it a 'mixed bunch', David ? Brits and Americans ?
These events are SO good for 'networking' as they call it over there. And they get you away from the usual crowd of Brits moaning into their beer at Brit pubs on 192 !
However, the last time we went (were invited) to a BACC event was to a Brits Christmas Dinner which was held at a minor Hilton Hotel off Major Blvd. near Universal about three Christmases ago.
The organisor at that time, Christen Svendsen (yes he is a Brit - even with that Scandinavian sounding name) had promised a 'real English Christmas Day lunch'. However, the chef and the kitchen staff clearly had a problem with translating the menu into food on the plate. They clearly had no idea what 'roast potatoes' should be, the turkey had clearly been machine sliced off what I fully expect was processed turkey bought in as a catering pack (it was even square and wet) and the 'gravy' was that thick gluey grey stuff (as in biscuits and gravy). Not the lovely brown gravy that we all know and love !
When the Christmas Puddings came around - well ! Nobody had told the kitchen that these things need to be cooked out of the pack - at least to microwave them ! So they were served cold - and rather solid. The 'brandy butter' was also cold and thick ! Yuk, yuk !
And considering what that meal cost - I dare not wonder what the Americans thought of a 'traditional British Christmas Dinner' ? Probably great pity for us Brits at Christmas (sorry, "The Haalidays!") ?
So I am pleased to know that the Fish and Chips turned out well - but then the Cricketers Arms IS English owned so they should !! :)

Peter,
Yes, it was a good turn out from some Brits and Americans. It was a mixed bunch of individuals from Realtors to Immigration attorneys. Well worth joining from the contacts point of view.
