We cut back to keep using gas...if spending here is anything to go by most people are buying things for the back garden to save on going out and holidays...we have just finished our patio so its an outside room..and seeing as the beach is just up the road we'll spend summer there..we stopped using central air last year and put in window A/C units saved $200 a month the first month..not using the gas to heat saves about $400/600 a month..it was a cold winter but we still have tons of firewood left..if it were me I could live without heat even in the coldest weather..you get used to the cold..most people here keep their homes between 50 and 62...I've had a store of food for a while..that saves a bomb not having to buy till the things you want are on offer..
My neighbour was telling me about the 70s here when there was no gas..and how people lived in one room..went up the road to buy some wood to make William a veggie garden and the guy said that is the main thing people are buying wood for..
