suprised no one has mentioned this. of course the gutter press will revel in this as another example of the US and its crazy gun laws.

maybe they could ask what were they doing at 3am 12 miles from where they were staying in a reputedly known drug and 'other activities' area ???

sad but there has to be more to this than tourists taking the wrong turn ??

Sorry but no matter where they were they did not deserve to die like that. Unfortunately nowhere in the world is safe anymore.

Only just heard this today, how awful, what on earth is the world coming to? Guns should be banned imho then that will never happen in the US, too many companies would go out of business

banning guns wont work as the bad people will still get hold of them. just like drugs.

better policing, stiffer penalties -maybe. but it appears this was some 16 year old kid from a ghetto -a gang banger set for a life of crime . sadly there may not always be an answer

They said on the news last night that they think they were commiting burgulary there.

I have to disagre with Susie, I am pro Gun, I have 4 and a license, banning them does not stop the bad guys having them, just look at the UK. It looks like we will soon be able to carry them in full sight as well, instead of having to conceal tham, it is very hard to conceal a gun in Florida as we donthave the clothes for it. Its not guns that kill people, its people.

I do agree that it is the person holding the gun. But the problem in the USA is that, unlike the UK, you have the Constitution to cope with and the much disputed 'Right to bear arms'. If you tighten up the laws on who can have a licence you will surely run foul of the Constitution and you are back to square one. They need to pin down the Constitution as to what is meant by 'right to bear arms', which they haven't managed to do for over 100 years.
I can't wait to see Carl pushing his shopping cart in Walmart complete with holstered gun and just to complete the image, chaps, spurs and big ten gallon hat.
' Geeet offff yer orse an driiiink yer milk' as JW would say. LOL

The difference between the US and the UK is that in the UK only the bad boys have a right to bear arms.

I'm pro gun too..I no longer own one but feel that people have the right to if they wish..I have to be honest and say I've seen more guns in the UK that I have seen in the US..once something is illegal the market for it grows and they become easier to find...I was offered a gun in the UK in my local second hand store by a lady shopping there..my dad used to sell them out of the back of a truck when I was about 5..my Uncle sold guns legal for a living back then..

According to the British press, the two guys were in a Sports bar quite near the subdivision. There was CCTV footage on the news of them there. The paper ( Daily Mail) hypothesizes that they got the munchies and were walking to a 24 hour IHOP and took a wrong turn. This makes sense if you see the relative positions on a map. It would be easy to lose your way if you had had a few too many.

Carl, who was committing burglary????? Surely not two British holidaymakers both professionals with degrees and from well to do families. I have to say looking at those homes on the news, what on earth would be in there that they would want?? That makes no sense.

I think what they may have been saying is that the gunman's defence may be that he thought they were burglars. Have read that it may have been a gang initiation to shoot someone. He obviously didnt know they were British tourists.

If Fox is really saying they think the lads were burglars, then the Sarasota Tourist Board obviously has more pull than you would imagine!

I have to agree with Chris and Carl. People kill people and guns are just one of the many ways to do so. Having said that, I honestly do not see the point in having more than one gun per person/household - it would still be constitutional in that the person has the right to own it - but what in God's name do people need with an armory? Are they expecting world war 3 to break out on their doorstep and so need thousands of rounds of ammunition and dozens of types of guns? I can understand if you need a different type for sport or hunting - but the licenses should reflect the need for this and the average Joe should only be allowed to have hand guns instead of AK-41's etc. Just my opinion though, and I am sure that the NRA will be down on me like a ton of bricks for even daring to mention a restriction on the quantity of guns anyone should have. Heaven help us all :p

I have 4 guns all together and Dee has 2, but they are diffrent guns for using on a range, I have 1. 9mm for home and carrying. I beleive the law is about to change so that if you have a CWL you can have it showing, a much better idea, it is hard to conceal with a t shirt and shorts on.

omg,

My late husband worked for the MOD years again on the design and development of fire arms. The number of accidents that happened there has put me off guns

Your right Carl, it is not the gun that kill people but the people who use them

I do carry a tazer and pepper spray in my car just in case and I always make sure my car doors are locked to protect me and the grandchildren whilst driving

Thank goodness I have never had to use them
