My L1A visa is up for renewal in the next few months, and the company I'm working for is the subject of a takeover. The transaction should be finalised before my visa expires. Do I apply for a renewal now? If my renewal petition is granted prior to the takeover being completed, do I have to apply again or apply for a variation?

Hello Aussie expat welcome
How long have you held the L1A visa?is it over one year? if so maybe you can just apply for adjustment of status to a green card. When does your current visa expire?

I would talk to your company, and see what they say. They must have taken this into account when the takeover happened. The least they can do is talk to the incoming compnay and make them aware. Although I suppose technically you'd logically put the company you were woring for at the date of renewal.

I had proposed the Green Card route to the company before the takeover and they were less than enthusiastic - I think because their immigration lawyer was talking big $ figures to process a very straightfoward application
