Hi

Can anyone tell me if they took advise on their UK private pension when they moved to the USA and if so answer

Do you still make contributions?

Did you seek advise on whether or not to freeze the pension?

If you were employed by say the MOD, Council, Police, fire, etc., did you seek advise to see if this could be transfered to another type of scheme if you resigned from your job and move to the USA?

If so could you post the outcome.

Susie,

The area of Pensions can be a minefield. I suggest you contact Mark Solomons (Katya's husband) for some advice on the matter as this is an area he deals in. http://www.ukfrozenpension.com/

Susie & others, you may also consider paying voluntary National Insurance contributions in order to boost your OAP pension if you haven't already got enough credits in the pot.

You can go back 5 years to determine your 'BASIS" YEAR (HIGHEST EARNINGS) within the last 5 years and then make contributions for 5 years based on that so if you have been here a shortwhile you can still contribute against those earnings.

Do they pay your OAP if you are still in the US when you are that age? I know they do if you are in Europe but I didnt think they did if you are in the US or Oz???

You can only do that if you have basis year earnings in UK to relate it to.see previous post from me
