I applied for a UK renewal passport 4 weeks (4/22) ago after realizing that my passport had expired. I had already booked travel to London and onto Greece for my family of 5 for 5/28 returning 6/14. In calling the info line, I was told that payment had only been taken from my account on 5/13 (even though I sent a cashiers check for the amount). They are telling me nothing else other than things are really busy and it will be 4 weeks from that date, ie 6/13 before I get it. With travel booked for 5/28 (Sat), what are my chances of getting emergency documentation in time, thats even if they would grant it. I am in Portand Oregon and the nearest consulate is San Fransisco. Do I have to appear in person?

what a nightmare.

Just a heads up to everyone.....I have just received my passport after almost 12 weeks. It ended up travelling on emergency travel documentation and it was quite easy but very costly. I live in Portland, Or and the nearest consulate was San Francisco. I got the a hold of them on a Tues and basically explained the situation, got an appointment for that Thurs, flew down ($600), paid my fees again and returned. Flew out that Sat. One of my biggest concerns was that they wouldn't grant me the emergency docs because it wasnt a real emergency (a wedding in Greece), but they did. All's well that ends well.

Luckily we are not waiting to travel, but we sent ours off on May 15th and they didn't take the payment out until June 23rd to even begin processing. We are not expecting them to be delivered until probably August!
