Hi all,

I need a contact name & email of somebody "in authority" at the London Embassy.

It's for someone who is being given the run around with her immigrant visa. Each time she calls the Embassy, she is given completely different info about her case, depending on who she gets on the phone.

Example.....2 weeks ago she was told she would have her appointment letter in the post within 7 days, then last week she was told to call back again for further info in 3 weeks, then today she was told her case isn't even complete!

Every person she has spoken to has a Scottish accent, so today she asked if she was actually speaking to the London Embassy and was told "no, we are a call centre, we handle all enquiries for the Embassy".

She asked how could she speak to someone who is physically working at the Embassy, and was told "you can't, all calls to the London Embassy are re-routed to us here at the call centre".

Surely this can't be right?

Anyway, I've heard you all talking about some guy called Caulfield, who's he then? Is it worth her emailing him do you think? All she wants is a truthful answer to her questions, not completely different info every time she phones.

But trying to speak to somebody who knows what they're doing seems impossible.

Can anybody advise?

Thanks,
Tina

Thanks Dee. I forgot to add also, she emailed the Embassy as well, and got an automated reply saying they had deleted her email and not to email them again as they don't respond to emails

I appreciate the help with the fax number and will pass it on to her. Just hope they don't shred it

She's in the UK by the way. Would still like to have a contact name if anybody knows who might listen to her.

Hi Tina,

The American embassy just do not want to talk to anyone, they say send an e-mail yet some people do not get replies to them, then they say send in written request with return stamped addresed envelope, but they do not alway reply

Here is a direct line to the embassy 0207 495 0551 this is the non immigrant section, they may speck to the applicant or they may tell her to write in, worth a try

The chaps name at embassy is John Paul Caulfied

Thanks Susie,

What's Mr Caulfield's position/job title? And how do you get to speak to him directly? What about an email address for him, do you have it?

I think she should speak to a local Senator and get them to contact the Embassy on her behalf - sometimes it pays to get the "big boys" on your side. What sort of visa is she looking into - perhaps there is a specific department she needs to contact with regard to that. Getting info on the right desk is important.

It's an Immigrant Visa (Green Card EB3). She's a nurse, coming to work at the same hospital as me. Her case was completed September 2006 but got caught up in retrogression, so her file has been sitting on someone's desk at the Embassy for 9 months. The latest news is EB3's are now current and we know several people who have interview dates already for July. All she wants to know is if she will be one of the lucky ones who gets an interview next month. But as I said, nobody at the Embassy will give her a straight answer.

Any idea which local Senator she should contact?

Thanks,
Tina

the one local to where she plans to live/work - google the senate office or local senator and that will tell you who to get in touch with. (they usually have a web site with contact info)

Thanks InnVic, appreciate your help.

I just googled and came up with Mel Martinez (Republican) and Bill Nelson (Democrat)

Which one do you think would be more appropriate/sympathetic/helpful?

Email or write to both - cover your bases so that you get a reply from either or both. Also try your congressman - they can often be a little more on the ball as to actual help. Good luck

Thanks everyone. I really need to find a way of contacting John Caulfield directly at the UK Embassy, anyone got his email address?

I would just point out that if both guys contact the embassy you may NOT get the same response as if only one did (I believe they prefer to only correspond with one person) I don't know which to choose - speak to local people - which is more sympathetic to immigration/employment issues? Pick one give him 7-10 days to do something - if no contact then get on to the other

Yes very good idea.

The Senators and Congressmen have a special e-mail address so wil get an answer from the embassy

Once the e-mail is sent the embassy have 30 days to answer, although I have known them to take a bit longer

Go for Mel Martinez, he is an immigrant himself from Cuba, he came here in US when he was 15 yrs old, this guy is very sympathetic and pro-immigrants, Bill Nelson is somewhat against any type of migration whether it be legal or illegal, d*mn that guy.
