EVER FALLEN FOR A REALLY GOOD DEAL?

Has there ever been something you really, really wanted? Something you have dreamed about, saved and planned for? Something that has almost been within your reach a couple of times, but remained elusive?

And then you see it advertised – a one time special offer – before the price goes up and stock runs out! And it’s not being offered by some “fly by night” company that no-one has ever heard of. It’s advertised by a respectable and well known supplier! This is too good to be missed – you’ll do whatever it takes to make one yours. It’s a little complicated, you can’t just order it over the internet and pay with a credit card. But it’s worth the paperwork and all the extra trouble. After all, this is your dream, and it will make such a difference to your life!

You send off your application and your money – special delivery because you don’t want to risk missing out on this offer. You wait with anticipation to hear that your order is being processed. But then – the news is out. The deal really was too good to be true! You won’t be getting that special something. It’s not that you were too slow, that others got in ahead of you. The story goes that they ran out of “stock” before it ever even became available! No one got one! You’ll get your check back, but no refund for expenses. There is even a hint that limited quantities may become available sometime in the future. At three times the price, of course!

How do you feel – angry, bitter, cheated?

This week, many legal “intending” immigrants feel like victims of a hoax. Employment category immigrants, many of whom have been waiting for years to file for their “Green Cards”, were advised mid-June via the US Department of State July Visa Bulletin, that most categories would be “current” as of July 1st. The majority have been through a long, nerve-wracking and expensive process (for both employers and employees), of obtaining labor certification and temporary visa’s to keep them in legal status while waiting for their employment “priority dates” to become current. Retrogressions and backlogs have caused hardship for many.

It was a huge shock for these people, their families, their employers and their lawyers to discover that although they had “gone by the book”, obtained the expensive medical examinations, and sent off their “green card” applications to arrive on Monday, July 2nd, all of these applications would now be rejected by the Department of Homeland Security. Some of these people will be fortunate enough to maintain legal status while they continue their long wait. Others, who cannot extend their non-immigrant visa’s, face the prospect of great financial and emotional hardship. They own property, pay taxes, have US citizen relatives and have lived here legally for years, but there may be no way for them to remain in the USA. Their employers face the loss of key employees who fill jobs for which there are no American workers available (as proven by legal certification).

There has been endless publicity about ILLEGAL immigrants, but now it is time to take a stand and support justice for LEGAL immigrants.

Wonder what they'd do if all the legal immigrants witheld their taxes? As I can't see illegal immigrants drawign attention to themselves by filing tax returns......

You're dead on! I hate when some talk show hosts keep repeating that they don't have anything against legal immigrants, when in fact is the same people blocking every possible way of making OUR lives better! They keep mentioning that their grand parents were heroes because they came here legally. Yeah... right! When all that you required was showing up at the harbor and paying five cents.
I'm really fead up with all of this.

Thank you Sharon for your support.
I orginally came here with an E2 visa. The process was expensive and convoluted. My lawyer wasn't great, but he WAS expensive. Now I'm adjusting to an H1B visa. I was lucky enough to get picked up in the April 1st debacle (remember? they received on the first day double the number of applications that visas were available). This means that my wife (who works with autisitic kids in the local school, a job that I can guarantee to you very few people are willing to do) will loose her employment authorization. It is not the money, since pay is miserable, but she really loves those kids and will be forced to sit around doing nothing. She will probably volunteer, but volunteers are really at the bottom of the pile and can do very little (do you think that immigration is the only over regulated area of life?)
Now I'm asking my company to start the green card application. Unfortunately, USICS has forbidden applicants to pitch in with the costs. This means that my company needs, out of the kindness of their hart, spend thousands of dollars for something that may or may not happen in the next years and that ultimately brings very little back to them (I'm already authorized to work for them, so, what's their incentive?). They are considering this and I believe that they will go along, but with all this negative propaganda, they are a bit reluctanct.
In my opinion is completly ridiculous to think that a company REALLY will pay thousands of dollars and wait for years to hire someone. If they do it, is just to make someone a favor. From a practical point of view has no rationale at all. That is why it ****es me off when they keep talking about how much the love LEGAL immigration. It is a lie. At least Tancredo is honest enough to say that he oppposes immigration, period.

Regarding the applications accepted until August 17th.
Congratulations to the lucky ones! I'm very glad for you.
Nevertheless, this shows again how ridiculous this process is!
