Hi

Thought some members may wish to e-mail or send a letter for the personal attn of Gordon Brown

Email the Prime Minister You can use our website to send an email to the Prime Minister on the issues that matter to you most.

Important, please note!

The PM receives many thousands of letters, faxes, and emails every week. So unfortunately it is not practical for him to respond to all of your messages.

However all the emails received are read by staff in Downing Street and each month the Prime Minister receives a report on the issues raised, together with a representative sample of emails, a small number of which he aims to answer.

If the content of your message is private or personal, or you would like to be sure of a reply, you should write in confidence to Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street, London SW1 2AA.
After sending your email message you will be sent an automated return email from us asking you to confirm your message by clicking on a link. This process allows us to confirm that the message has come from you and that we have your correct email address.

Some email systems may filter automated messages into a junk mail folder, so please make sure you look out for our verification message.

If you are ready to send your message to the Prime Minister, please choose a subject from the following list.

If anyone does decide to write or email, please ensure that you remind them that you are a POSTAL VOTER and who gives... can also take away.

If you write to the PM and you are a registered Postal Voter, then copy the same letter to your MP. It's the MP who gets it in the neck if you vote for the other guy, so he doesn't want to **** off his constituents, irrespective of where they live.
As an ex-civil servant who handled this type of correspondence, all roads lead to the main guy you want an answer from or whoever has policy responsibility about what you are writing about.
So for example, if you wrote about the immigration problem in the UK, that's Home Office. You could write to the Home Sec AND your MP. Your MP will then write to the Home Secs dept copying your letter and asking for a response to him. A dept may ignore your direct letter and if it was answered, it would likely be a minion like me (or was). However a letter from an MP to a Govt Minister, even though the content is the same, WILL be answered further up the food chain in the Home Secs dept. Who will reply, will depend on who your MP is and the clout and importance he has. So if your MP is David Cameron, it will be the Home Sec who responds. Hope this quick 101 helps. Just remember keep plugging away.

This is all true! I had a meeting with my MP who said he would help, after a long detailed letter to him at the House of Commons we had a response some 5 weeks later. Unfortunately our MP way away and our letter to him was dealt with by his aid.

The letter went to the relevant departments for a response but our letter was not read correctly and ended up with a box standard response. I know Sue made follow up calls to the DTI who then admitted they did not quite understand the extent of our letter etc.

I am in the process of responding to the letter from the DTI and our MP as being totally unacceptable and requesting it again be reviewed.

I will keep you all updated and hope others do the same to try and get the voice heard!

Regards

Hi Dustin,

I am so pleased you are following this up, the lady I spoke to just thought your letter was for a one off person and not a group of victims.

What hope is there is they do not even read the correspondence properly
