Hi everyone I have just renewed our car insurance.... The company we have been with for the past year are no longer insuring people in Florida... I called State farm whom we have other insurances with and they said as we had only had our american licence one year they couldnt give us insurance either. I have been calling around and it is very difficult to get good cover with anyone at good price. I have taken cover with Geico for now costing $492 a month (MADNESS) an american kid of 17 who lives next door pays alot less and crashed a golf cart the other day, and took his driving test in a car park:rolleyes: We have both been driving over 20 years and cant believe the amount we have to pay...Our American licences have run out at the moment as we are still awaiting decision on our I94 renewal from Vermont, and the way things are going at Vermont we shall still be waiting next year...:( Please post any good companies for car insurance who dont rob the british Thanking you all in advance Kind regards Lorraine

We pay $608 for 6 months with Mercury, but we have been told that Progressive take into account your UK driving history.
Hi
Try Progressive

We're with Encompass Insurance and pay about $2000 for 2 vehicles (minivan and soft top) with full business cover. We've been with them for about 3 years now and the service is good. They include breakdown insurance as part of the cover, so both times my van broke down, they paid the tow and it doesn't affect premium. Oh and by the way, their policies are for 12 months, not 6 months as is the norm in the US. It's like being back home. We had a policy with Mercury for 6 months. A load of crap. Very poor service. They screwed up all the billing and they wanted evidence of insurance from 1998 (we didn't move to the US till 2000 and that just didn't penetrate?). Luckily I'd kept all my UK insurance paperwork and asked for a reference from last UK insurer as well.
Car insurance is a lottery here. You could also ask your house insurer if they do auto cover and lump everything together, many do.
We have our cars insured with Nationwide and we have full business cover and they cost about $1000 per car per year

Progressive do take your UK driving history into account. They are also I think the only people who will insure on UK licenses, until your US ones are renewed they may be the only ball game in town. I was with them until my son passed his test, with a kid on the insurance Geico came out cheaper.
