It depends on what browser you use.
If you use Internet Explorer, then you should download IESpell. (http://www.iespell.com/)
If you use Firefox, you should go to here. (http://spellbound.sourceforge.net/install)

I only joined yesterday, so I know this is a late reply to this thread, but I use iespell all the time because I have fat fingers and am sometimes dyslexic (I just used it on this word!). If you use Internet Explorer you can download it from www.iespell.com and it is free.
You can also get a free spell checker if you download the Google toolbar.

I'm dyslexic..also English was not my only language at home...spelling was a nightmare for me for years..but I've found it easier using the PC for so long now...I could not write a letter with a pen if you paid me..

The problem with spell-checkers is that they only know how to 'spell' a word - not how to use it.
Most spelling errors that I see on this Forum and others comes from people using quite correctly spelled words - but in the wrong context for that spelling. So a spell checker would never pick them up since they are being correctly spelled in themselves - they are just being used wrongly and no checker would ever know the difference !
Typical examples are the difference between to, too and two. So often I see people using them in the wrong context because they sound the same and they just don't know which one to use.
Yesterday on here I saw someone use 'their' when it should have been 'they're' (i.e. they are), but they could also have used 'there' which sounds just the same.
Where, were and wear are more examples, as are the differences between choose and chose, loose and lose.
I have also seen examples of people spelling just as they speak - expecting the words to be written exactly as they do pronounce them in conversation. So 'have' becomes 'of'...............and there are many more.
So don't rely on that spell checker too much - it is not infallible ! ;)

To be honest the last thing I notice is someones spelling unless its so bad I can't work it out.....if someone plays the school teacher then they'd best spell everything right from that day on...:)
You don't know enough about peoples backgrounds to go worrying about how they spell..

Actually I really don't think it is that people can't spell. Usually when my spelling is corrected by spell checkers it is because I have missed a letter, pressed the adjacent key on the keyboard, or 2 keys at the same time.
I am up to 2 finger typing now (sometimes even 3 fingers!), but because I try to type fast, my fingers make the mistakes, not my brain, and that is where spell checker comes to my rescue.

My first written language was French..spoken English...I also had an illness around age 6 were I had to learn to read and write all over again..I had home schooling because I was too ill for school till I was 9...and my teachers were 3 old french ladies..my great aunts and my nan...I had no chance AFTER THAT..lol!..I'm dyslexic in English...got to college at 18 before they found that out..the PC has been a life line...and I can now put more than 5 words together...both my kids are dyslexic...both find it so much easier using a pc to type..

I think that it all goes back to how seriously you take yourself or other people. It goes without saying that if someone's grammar and spelling are good, it is more likely that you will understand their point of view or factual postings.
If their post looks slovenly, erratic or uneducated in it's format or content, then it's fair to say that it may be taken less seriously.
That's why, if you know that you are not good at spelling, you should use a checker before you hit "submit".
You no it makes cents ! ;)

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will definitely become the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".
In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.
The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.
In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where! more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.
Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.
By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".
During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl.
Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.
Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.
:) :)
Anyone who has a knowledge of German - or Germans - may understand this better ! :)

Thank you for posting this reinforces the fact how much Europe hate the "english":D
Surprised that people can't get over the fact that this is the only single language that can be spoken and understood by millions of people across the world. Its the only single language that bounds the world together for communication ......with introduction of above I can imagine more crazy ppl. Will come on board to kill this beautiful language.

Hilarious FloridaPete, but it is very true that whilst English is spoken world wide, it is still one of the hardest languages to learn. This is mainly due to the many words that are spelt the same way but pronounced differently and so have different meanings. Take for example Live and read - it is difficult enough for anyone to be sure of which is being used until you read the whole sentence!
