A 38 year old Man from the US has made a remakable recovery after a pacemaker has been placed in his brain.
He can now speak with his Family, eat, and watch tv.
This is wonderful news after the Guy has not been able to communicate for 6 years.:)

Its marvelous what technology can do nowadays. I know that some research can be controversial - but ( and this is just my opinion!!) I truly believe that God gave us brains to use them for the betterment of mankind - even though most of the time he fails to do this in favour of finding better ways to annihilate the next guy.
Again, great news for him and his family.

Great news, and in this case technology wins hands down!!

That is wonderful, what happened to him, did he have an accident or stroke?

perhaps they can put a pacemaker in my husbands brain...he can manage the TV and eating bit very well.... but talking sense, putting out the trash and washing dishes seems to be beyond his scope!

Even if they put this new technology in their brains it wouldn't help!!!!! Maybe make them talk less sense just faster.

I thought they put electrodes in his brain which shocks his brain to make it active. Very interesting though.

The expert who was speaking regarding this Guy referred to it as a Pacemaker and 2 Electrodes been placed in the brain
I think to be able to perform such a delicate operation is marvelous, to give this Guy some of his life back and his family their loved one.

Didn't a Dr Frankenstein do that a few years back :-)
(sorry I'm being flippant - but the post really has nothing to do with Expats issues ...unless we're suggesting that this device could be used to generate some compassion in Embassy officials....but they'd have to invent one that ran on mains power as it would take more than a few duracells to generate the required effect!) :headbash:

Julie,I put this thread in the Current Events section ,just as an Everyday story, like Susie started the thread on the Bridge tragedy.
Surely we dont have to post about Expat issues in every section do we??

I don't want to think about snow yet...its 93 today and a little sticky as I sit on our deck reading Harry Potter! (guests are out!) The winters are long but much prettier than the UK ones...though I'm not sure you "southern softies" could hack the cold! ;) (we got to -23F last year with blizzards dropping 30" snow at a time!) best time for sleigh rides late feb - march ....anyway heres a pic taken last yearto get you in the mood.

Seems, just what I need, something to kick start my brain into gear. Some days it just feels as if it's about to blow a gasket
