ok guys, this question has probably been posted a few times and i have searched for threads and cant seem to find. so here goes my question.
We have just applied to renew our L1 visa, however we are extending our I-94 forms, until such time we want to go back to the U.K, to have our visa stamped in passports.
Our immigration attorney has said expect to wait 3-4 months for a reply on your renewal from USCIS.
so with this in mind, our drivers license's are only valid until september of this year!! and we are looking at a 3-4 month wait as mentioned. we have already submitted our renewal a couple of weeks ago.
so how do we continue to drive without a valid visa in our passports?
thank you guys traci

Hello Traci,
I know there will be replies from those on this forum more qualified to advise you. But can tell you when we were in a similar position to yourselves we carried our UK driving licences and kept our fingers crossed, so to speak.....
I think we were without our US licences for around 4 weeks, but it was long enough to worry me.
Good luck with your renewal!
Kind Regards,
TP :)

Last year I had the same problem - we were told by our VA that we could renew on our Receipts from the center that is processing your I94. I rang our local Driving Licence place and they wouldn't accept the receipt, as they said it didn't show we were legally here.
Our VA told us to go to the DL center at, I think, Winter Garden. The address is 4101 Clarcona Ocoee Rd - 407 445 5462.
We renewed my licence with no problem and also went back a few weeks later to get our daughter's learner permit.
However at the last Committee Meeting, someone else said they were told they couldn't renew without the actual I94, so maybe things have changed.
It is probably worth asking this office if they will do it, but don't dwell too much on the fact that others won't.

Traci take your receipt notice when you get it,and go to the DVL on OBT,you will be able to renew your license with that, good luck.

I absoultely agree - it really depends on who you get (and on what day), they dont seem to have any hard rules...I think they make them up as they go along (perhaps they used to be Treaty Visa Officers??:D ). If on eturns you down try another office.
Good Luck with the renewal...and remember if time lags on you can always file a premium processing form and jump into the 15 day wait list.

yes we did consider this option, but then 1000 dollars to us at the moment, can be used for other things! like re-enrolling my daughter back into school etc etc etc
thank you everyone for your advise

Hi Traci,
I absolutely agree...just wanted to remind you that there is an option ...if you need it.
Fingers crossed though that all goes well - my friend's L-1A renewal went through (even without PP) in 4 weeks...so there's hope there.

Just make sure your insurance remains valid, as ours is based on us holding a valid FL. D/L
If you had an accident and didn`t have a valid D/L this could go against you. Your premium may go up slightly, but you need to be covered. It would be awful if you had an accident and they invalidated your insurance.
Your premium may go up several hundred dollars, it may be more cost effective to just premium process your USCIS docs, and get the answer back in 5/7days.
