The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency said in a news release that dozens of immigrants with criminal records were among those arrested in the Miami, Tampa and Orlando areas. They include Carlyle Thompson — a Bahamian national who entered the United States as a visitor, overstayed his visa, and was convicted of child abuse in 2006.

Another 115 of those arrested were so-called fugitive aliens, men and women who applied for some kind of immigration benefit such as asylum. They lost their cases and then stayed in the United States despite a judge's order to leave. Most of those arrested face imminent deportation.
