Well, we have plenty of members here from Davenport, so shouldn't be too hard hopefully. :)

Might be worth checking out some singles sites... Not all are for dating, some have "just friends" categories. Aside from that, you might have to take out a communal hobby. When I am in the US I partake in local pool tournaments. Its handicapped so you don't have to be a pool shark to enter, and that made me a few friends. Taking up something like bowling too, would help you make lots of friends.

Hello Em

What sorts of hobbies or interests do you have?

Maybe take an evening class?

I am sure you you will soon meet some interesting people there and feel at home in the USA may take a while but it will happen

Hi Em if you dont mind a bit of a drive I live in Winter Garden older than yourself. But we have a girls night every second thursday of the month at eachothers houses and lots of the girls are like yourself same age and young children.. Also we have girls nights out to Blue Martini Downtown Disney and Universal if you can get hubby to have your son over night you can always stay over and go home in the morning we normally get hubbys to drive us there then taxi back. Wide range of ages from about 24 to 60 but all young at heart and enjoy girly time... Good luck with the E2 fingers crossed

What a shame, someone I know off another forum who was on E2 just went home because of difficulties integrating and finding things to do with a toddler, she was about your age too. So it does seem to be a problem. She was complaining there were no mums and tods clubs etc.

I have to say you may be better in another location, nothing wrong with Davenport but there are a lot of holiday homes there and fewer permenent residents than in other areas. There is loads going on for young mums in Celebration. I am sure that some of the other more residential areas have things running as well.

As to friends, mine are pretty much all acquired through work or forums.

Hi Em

Do you like bowling ?

Kissimmee Lanes near the Walmart on the 192 has a few different leagues. Why not pop in to see when the next one starts ?

They put a list on the wall and you can just add your name to it. Not sure now but they used to have beginners and advanced leagues. They also had mens only, womens only and mixed legaues

Julie C,
we are hoping to settle in Clermont or Celebration once things get sorted with our E2, im not a huge fan of Davenport because of the tourists to be honest, no prob with them, just harder to settle and make friends for me and my son. celebration have loads of clubs and groups but you HAVE to be a resident of celebration!!!! and obviously dirt rich...hahahahahahaha!

Lorraine, thanks for the invite, let me know when your next girls night is and ill see what i can do!

we have BBQs and street parties...and get togethers...I miss all of that being in MA most of the year...
It seems a lonely life all over the US when you have young kids....no coffee mornings...no mother and toddlers...no meeting at the school gate for a chat...

Hi Kris and Em

May be a good idea to have the odd knees up,

Do you think it would be a good idea to post on the committee page so they can maybe think up a few outings or get togethers

Coffee mornings around someone place would be nice...I'm not in FL that often...but anyone who is bored can pop round when I am there...

I can talk the hind leg off a donkey....but then I don't get out much...

Hiya,
arranging a regular knees up would be great, i was in the 'chat room' with suzie today and we were talking about the same thing! Ive noticed that the americans bring their children up VERY differently to the english, back in the UK i was always out and about with friends etc, but here they stay home!!! obviously they have the patience of saints. cos staying at home with a 2 year old is something i cannot do!!!!
There is a play area opening in davenport soon so im gonna try it, it was actually something i was thinking of doing but got pipped to the post! alos once we move our business closer this way (if we get an E2..lol) we are gonna have a coffee shop too, so you can all come there.

Perhaps one of you girls should explain the term "knees up" to those Americans reading the boards.

It might be taken the wrong way.

OK, so I was the only one who was thinking that.

God, you think that's terrible. I actually THINK like that, so give me a break. It's not an easy life! :)

Hi

I thnk Susie said she will try and be there at late evenings around 10-30pm and just look at the home page to see if anyone is in there. If you see someone just click on Caht and join in

I agree perhaps as many as possible could meet there say every Sunday night at around 10pm
