When former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani gets a call from his wife Judith, he takes it, even if it happens in the middle of a speech to hundreds of people.

The New York Republican presidential hopeful was delivering a speech to the National Rifle Association Friday in Washington when his cell phone began to ring. He was in the middle of discussing the importance of the 2nd amendment.

"Let's see now, this is my wife calling, I think," he said as he answered the phone.

"Hello dear, I am talking to the members of the NRA right now, would you like to say hello?," he asked, as the crowd sat mostly silent. She apparently did not.

"I love you and I will give you a call when I am finished, OK," he said, trying to wrap up the call. "Have a safe trip, talk to you later dear I love you."

The crowd quietly applauded after he ended the call and Giuliani joked, "It's a lot better that way. This is one of the great blessings of the modern age, to be always available - maybe it isn't. I am not sure."

Was the call Friday real or staged? Giuliani received a similar call during a June 21 rally in Hialeah, Florida - telling the crowd it was his wife on the phone. The clip of that moment is posted on and being noted by other campaigns.

The Giuliani campaign says the call was legitimate.

Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the NRA, said he thought the moment was "light hearted" and the crowd was "amused by it." "I think we've all taken a lot of phone calls from our wives," LaPierre added.

Asked if he would take a call from his wife during a speech, Lapierre said, "I don't know that I would have it (the phone) in my pocket on."

So lads, can I ask if you were in the middle of an important speech, would you take a call from the misses?

Yes, but only once or twice and for the audience for the light-hearted applause and so it would look like I'm a loving husband. That would give me points in the polls! Call me cynical, but I strongly suspect Mayor Guiliani set this up. Look at the evidence,

He was in the middle of the speech and so ordinarily people would trun their phone off.
If he always left his phone on you would always see him on the phone in public with the amount of public appearances he has made. Also how many other times have you seen him speaking to his wife?
How many times will you see it in the future. Not many, if at all, as he now used this trick already and he cannot let it get old - but I could be wrong.
Where is his personal secretary to take his call - senior political figures do not have phones on them.
He was is relatively left-wing according to some Republicans. The NRA are certainly not left-wing and are more on the right, even on Republican standards. Therefore there was an issue of support. What do you do to try and increase support in this situation - you make yourself look like a loving family man winning more of the hearts and minds of the NRA members.

Genius!

Love your reply Munish, the thought never even entered my head. LOL

I always used to joke with my husband saying, behind every good man is a better woman, giving a gentle push from time to time, LOL

Hi Munish

So do you think that Mrs Blair got pregant (for the last pregnancy) just so her hubby would win votes to be seen as the caring family man? (or a dirty old one, lol)

Totally! Actually, I'm surprised he could get it up at his grand old age. May be he couldn't and got healthcare assistance - could not be the result of the NHS though - they must have health insurance!

I just saw that clip on the Daily Show with John Stewart. He made a fundamental mistake - he said "that must be wife" before putting his hands in his pocket to reach for his phone. What a dumbass - if you going to act at least do it properly!
