Are posters aware or care about the scandal of expatriate frozen pensions. Brits living in the Old Commonwealth countries i.e. Canada, NZ, Australia, South Africa are denied increases in their old age pensions which are available to Brit expats everywhere else. For example, an old Brit in the USA gets the increase but if he lives across the border in Canada he does not. This piece of immorality has been perpertrated for decades by successive Brit governments and no end is in sight. Join your local pensioner association and campaign against this injustice.

Hello and :welcome:
Please tell us a little about yourself.
Can you confirm if you are talking about the old age pension being frozen or private pensions being frozen

I am talking about old age pensions which every Brit pays into in the UK. We all pay the same but those who retire to the Old Commonwealth countries get no increases while the rest get the increases. A classic example is of a pensioner getting the increase if he lives in the USA but not getting them if he lives in Canada. Go figure. I am 60 years old. Have lived in SA for 32 years. My wife is 65 and has been drawing her pension for 5 years with no increases. If a private scheme discriminated like this they would be prosecuted. Paul Elliott from Darkest Africa.

Hi Paul
That is terrible, so what can you suggest members do to try and rectify?

Members affected{or who will be affected in time ] should join their local British Pensioners Association and lobby to redress this issue. The time is now ripe as a Brit election is imminent and the Tories are doomed without the expatriate vote [ most Brit expatriates are either Tory or soon become Tory when the reality of standing on their own two feet without the safety net of the Welfare State hits them]. Their [ the Tories] [ cast iron] committment to redress the situation must be the price we demand for our support. The numbers affected are 450000 around the world, exactly half the number of Brit expatriate pensioners.I found out about you as I was trolling the net for expatriate forums. What does IMHO stand for? Paul Elliott
