Hi

Just saw on the news tonight that leaves do not fall off a tree they get pushed !

Aparently trees send a chemical to the stem of the leaves and this pushes the leaves so they fall off the tree.

They did a test and broke a twigg with leaves on before the chemical was sent bey the tree. The leaves on the twigg died but when put infront of a fan blowing at the dead leaves they did not drop off

I promise I have not lost my marbles I really did watch this on the news tonight. Did anyone else see the report?

I always thought they jumped! Just hope they don't "get pushed" too much before the leaf peepers come!

Hi Kris

I saw the news and it is true.

The trees do send a chemical message to push the leaves off the trees. This is so when it snows the snow can fall through the branches otherwise the weight of the snow would damage the tree

For a minute. last night I thought it was 1st April !

Yep

spagetti tress were an April fool run by the BBC in the 1970's, it discribed the fate of poor spaggetti farmers who were starving after a failed harvest. It was described as the best / biggest April fool as many thousands tried to send money to the BBC disaster fund and hundreds phoned to volunteer to go to Italy to run relief stations!!!
