Hi

I had my appointment with the embassy in London for my (second) L-1 renewal yesterday, and thought that anyone else approaching theirs might be interested to know how it went.

The appointment (the wait time when I 'phoned to make it in early September was three weeks) was scheduled for 1:45.

After going in and being given my number, I was called to the first window to hand in my papers within ten minutes.

Three hours later I was called to the second window to be asked one question, which was something along the lines of: "Has anything changed since your petition was approved?"

When I answered "No", I was told that my passport, with the new Visa, would be returned within three to five days.

That's wonderful !

I think it's great that you have gone through the initial petition smoothly and subsequently seem to have had no trouble in London. It gives others hope, and also shows that the system does actually work for some people.
Although the majority of members here are having some sort of difficulty, it should be noted that this is the nature of an Ex-Pats immigration forum. It's going to be mostly people with immigration issues, so don't be too despondent thinking that it's happening to EVERYONE. It's just not. For every case that has gone pear shaped, there are probably hundreds of families sitting quietly enjoying their new life in the US, so stick at it.

Andy is testimony to that, if you read over his previous posts.

Hi Andy

Just a quick question

Did they actually say you were approved ? or just that they would return your passport in a few days?

Well done if they said approved and will give others hope.

I do hope you were told approved.

Hi

I was told that my passport, with the new Visa, would be returned within three to five days.

Ron,

I took it that he was approved. I like the no questions asked scenario. We're ALL advocates for that I'm sure !! :D

Ron-

Yes, approved. So I am 'sorted' for another two years.

Bobby-

Thank you. I hope that everything goes as smoothly for you when you come back to the UK for your appointment.

Hi Andy

Fantasic ! Well done you

What sort of reception did the officer give you ? Warm, friendly or cold

Do you think you will apply to become a LPR or eventually a USC?

I beleive that an L visa can only be extended to a total of 7 years, not sure so I will do some research or does anyone know the answer?

Hi Sue

Thanks.

I'd say that I received a friendly reception, as brief as it was.

Like you, I am under the impression that the L-1 is for seven years - one year initially, then three renewals (if successful) of two years each.

Will I apply to become an LPR in the future? Don't know to be honest. For the time being, I'm happy where I am - and, to me, that's all that matters.

Yep. I think you're correct Kitty. I must admit I didn't really look at it. Whoops! I just loved the pronounciation from Zoe which sounded Welsh. First time I actually saw the term was on this forum. Is LPR a widely used abbreviation at USCIS?

Ok sorry folks - got it wrong and can't spell - aren't I doing well!!!!!

I must admit all the abreviations over here drive me nuts - sometimes I just try and make up what I think things are - most of the time I expect I am wrong. Mind you some are hilarious - especially the medical ones!!!

Hi so glad to hear about your experience at London. I am going on the 23rd. I hear with my family as my sister has terminal cancer . With all the stress I was dreading the London interview. How long did it take for your visa to arrive after the interview??? Did you take anything with you?? If my sister is still alive I want to bring my son back to US and then fly back to UK myself. Thankyou Kind regards Lorraine , Susie I will call when I get backxx

I think you have more to concern yourself with, than the spelling of your posts. Especially now it looks like you just signed of that last post as Bobbiiii ???

....dearie dear, you have got a lot on your mind!!

Good luck at the Embassy. You'll be fine. Quick visit to the window, quick question and gone. Passport back in 3 or 4 days. Easy Peezy Lemon Squeezy.

Hi Lorraine

Although I took everything with me, all I was actually asked for at the embassy was the DS-156, DS-157 and passport. Plus the e-mail receipt to show that I had paid the processing fee when I booked the appointment.

My appointment was on the Wednesday and I had my passport and new visa back Friday morning.

I hope everything goes as smoothly for you on the 23rd.

Hi Lorraine

Yes, you can fill in the DS-156 & DS-157 on line and print them off.

I paid the fee ($100) with my credit card over the telephone when I booked the appointment. The receipt for this was sent by e-mail and I needed to show this when I arrived at the embassy.

Can only suggest that you contact your attorney and ask them about this.

Regards

Andy
