Hi
I got a moving violation the other day (Went through a stop sign). You can do traffic school online (Apparantly it takes about four hours.) and it stops you getting points and discounts your fine. It also maintains your safe driver status for insurance purposes.
I just googled 'online driving school florida' and loads came up. Seems to cost about $30-$40 so I will be doing mine at the weekend.
Best of luck.

I know that up here (maybe because they are not used to Brits) if you wave your UK driving licence they don't know what to do with it so let you off - could be especially useful if your not on E2 yet but looking for business or on VWP. We do of course have our VT state licence now - but Jons dad (who is a green card holder) got stopped before he got his sorted and got off scott free with two pulls!

That happened to me when i lived in NC.....they took one look at (my then) paper licence and let me off with a "watch your speed young lady" type speech.....was young and slim in a very short skirt back then though, so dont think it would work so well now ...lol

Not Emma, but others who live here - if you wave your UK licence now you'll get an even bigger fine as you'll be driving whilst uninsured as I think you only have 3 months to retake your relevant state test once you move here from abroad (No doubt it differs state to state).
It keeps your insurance costs down (husband did traffic school years ago and it took 100s off our insurance which sky rocketed temporaily - even though the speeding fine was out of state for us)

What concerns me is during any period whilst waiting to extend our stay (which I'm told takes 12 weeks or so) and/or waiting for E2 renewal (we all know how long that takes!) our driving premits expire and therefore technically many on E2 could be "uninsured".

I have been told by a visa specalist that if you can provide a letter from your attorny or visa specalist stating your visa is in for renewal they will extend your license

I think what has happened is there visa is with the embassy for renewal arrived in London in March there I-94 has another 7 weeks on it so that has been sent for renewal and they have been told that the I-94 can take up to 3 months to get back so no drivers license after the original date on I-94,This is all 3rd hand so sorry for the confusion.

Hi
I would do the traffic school, will save points and so insurance.
But be warned you can only go to traffic school max 5 times in your lifetime.
I think the traffic cops are on a monthly quota, towards the end of the month they are out in their droves

Definitely do the traffic school online.
You can rent the DVD and do it at your leisure. You HAVE to watch the whole thing though. I thought I'd be smart, log on and fast forward each section and do the quick question and answer. NOPE! buddy!
It's timed from when you log in (which I found out later), and the message came up and told me that I hadn't watched the whole section and couldn't return until x time. I thought "big brother" was watching me!
As for the drivers license, I got mine on the strength of an approval notice and valid passport. I-94 was out of date. They issued a paper license and once checked out they mail the hard copy within a few weeks.
Good Luck!

I got my ticket in AZ, where they have zero tolerance for speeding. Whatever you do never speed in AZ. I live in Las Vegas, I couldn't do the online school, so I went to the local traffic school here. It was a Saturday morning and the teacher had as much desire to be there as we did. It was supposed to be an all day class, but all we did was watch a 1hr video, take a short test and we was done.

Don't worry about finding a traffic school, within days you will be inundated with solicitation from traffic schools, online providers and attornies wanting to fight in court.Bite the bullet and do traffic school-my preference is to do it online.Although it is timed so you have to spend a certain time on each page you do not have to do it all at once.In fact you can stop and then pick it up the next day if you want.Saves you a packet longterm on your insurance rates!

Hi Tanner
Guess you know from experience. hehe
When one of my sons (no names) got his first ticket he thought his father would be so angry he asked me to help him and keep this information under my hat.
As this was a first offence I said ok, Booked traffic school and paid on credit card.
Went out the next day and when hubby and I walked indoors the message light was flashing
Husband pressed play and the message was
This is the traffic school blah blah
Well needless to say my son and I were in a bit of trouble for trying to hide and cover up ! never again and if son does the crime he must pay the time or fine as the case may be
