Hi and :welcome: My daughter was very quiet and shy when we moved here, but she has really blossomed and now has lots of friends. There is bullying in schools - but I have been lucky with the choice of school and my kids have never suffered from it. The school system here is very different from back home, and my kids love it. Do lots of research on them and then look for a business and home near a good one. I am sure that you and your daughter will be fine. Good luck.

Hi and :welcome: from me too.
I am sure your Daughter will be fine like our other member said it is different from the Uk school system but we have been happy with our choice.over here.
Our Daughter was 8 when we left the Uk but we were in Spain first and we sent our Daughter to a Spanish school where she was the 1st English child in their school history to attend,it was so daunting for us not her !!!!!
Kids are much more robust then you think !!!!
Good Luck in your research and do think about the other states in the US too.

Make sure you bring all records of shots/illnesses or she will have another set. And be prepared if she has not had chicken pox to have that vaccine here too! You would also need a check over from the Dr.
Schools are very different and she might even be the "celebrity" in the school if they dont have any brit kids. Also for choosing look for volunteer hours given to the school, this means there is alot of parent back up in class and not just one lonely teacher. Being an "A" school really in my opinion, does not mean alot. My kids excelled in a "c" school a great little school too with many volunteer hours. They are now an A school as the school/kids worked really hard.

My son had no problem in middle school...meeting up with new kids in High school was a bit of a problem only because there had never been a Brit kid at the Tech before and he got nick named the Brit kid which he hated...

Sports are always good...my son played ice hockey in the UK and made tons of friends before starting school at the local rink in the US...found most of those kids were in his class in middle school ...so he never was the new kid...

Hi
I am sure she will be fine,
When you get here have a house warming party, contact the hoa (home owners assn) to ask if there are any families with children of a simular age and invite them
The same goes for her class mates, throw a welcome to Florida BBQ for her class, I am sure this would help.
Think we parents, well me anyway, under estimate our children as most fit in very well and in fact better than us Adults most of the time
Most schools have in house counsellors so your daughter can have friendly chats with them and sure they will keep a close eye on her till she settles, try not to worry I am sure she will be fine :)
My son took to the lifestyle and school like a duck to water

our 8 yr old dtr settled in well. it was tough leaving a small school in a village and moving to a 'small' school here 800 students!
She is now in high school and very happy, very confident and very likely to succeed in a big way. the funniest thing was her trying to be an american with her accent, several people thought she had an adenoid problem for a while!

We found elementary and middle schools to be great; dismayed at high school though, the Puerto Rican gangs/threats to the kids forced us to home school
