For Car Insurance we use Unitrin Direct (used to be Kemper were bought out a couple of years ago). http://www.unitrin.com/currentcalc_results.asp
For our Company Car Insurance we use Geico. We found it much cheaper to get the same policy through them directly as opposed to going through an agent. www.geico.com
I will add a few more when I find the details.

Hi
Here are a few more sites that may be useful
www.ssa.gov
This information advises how to obtain a Social sec number as well as benefits available
www.fedworld.gov
You will with a bit of patience find vaulable information conerning laws and programs
www.state.fl.us
Provides general information on the state. As FL stands for Florida and if you are from a different state then replace # fl # with the abbreviation of the state you are searching
www.dos.state.fl.us
Simular to above but government related information. Again if you are searching a different state replace # fl # with the state abbreviation, eg ca is California

Hi Sue
Any free software available to calculate the the tax payable?
Something that can walk us through the process - like I know that we need to file the 1040 - but is it better to use the 1040 EZ form ? and also someplace we can put in the foreign earned income and calculate the amount of tax payabel?
Thanks

Might it not be better to have a separate section called "Useful links" or something and just add and amend as appropriate. That way it's easily accessible.

British Consul

Susie,
I didn't see www.info.gov on your list, this is the Federal Government Information Portal, similar to the www.directgov.gov.uk site in the UK.
Whilst we are in the process of listing websites, I think I should do a bit of self promotion (!). The British Consulate websites in the US are as follows:
Orlando: www.britainusa.com/orlando
Atlanta: www.britainusa.com/atlanta
Boston: www.britainusa.com/boston
Chicago: www.britainusa.com/chicago
Denver: www.britainusa.com/denver
Houston: www.britainusa.com/houston
Los Angeles: www.britainusa.com/la
Miami: www. britainusa.com/miami
New York: www.britainusa.com/ny
San Francisco: www.britainusa.com/sf
All of these websites are part of the overall British Government website for the USA, www.britainusa.com, but the individual sections contain information specific to the region they cover.
Hope this helps.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has published a guide for anyone thinking of moving overseas. It's intended for a global audience, so it doesn't offer specific information on moving to the USA, but it does contain useful information about what you may need to know before and after moving.
The guide can be viewed by visiting www.britainusa.com/orlando. Click on Consular Assistance, in theOur Services box. Then click on Advice and Assistance from our Consular Team. Scroll down and you will find the guide. It would be easier to post a direct link, but the links on our site change frequently, hence the detailed instructions on how to find it!

Hi Muniish,
there is such a comprehensive list of sites been given by members in a short time they should be KEPT safe and available for the future. In Uk I nearly died after loosing my marked favorites on the PC. It can take months to find good sites for various US offices. The driving licence list is fantastic. :tu: Your idea is good. SUSY!!!!listening NIGEL UK

Yes Susie is listening , but Susie is a technophobic ! so unable to sort this out,
can you send pm or e-mail to Punky and he should be able to sort this out if he feels the same as both of you :) but for the time being at least they are all being kept in this thread, (I hope anyway)
If you find useful links in any other thread, by all means copy and paste here for now, thanks :)
