Traditonally, Democrats are supportive of immigrant's rights. They've been a bit quiet on the issue though because they didn't want to scupper their chances in the elections with the crucial middle ground supported the needed to win back control.
However, now they have control of both houses, I expect they will be a lot more vocal about it now.
Mark: Bush's days were always numbered, because US presidents can only stand for two terms. He is on his second, so he has to stand down, regardless. However, it does my he is considerably weaker now as he would have to rely on Democrat's support to push through his policies, which is unlikely. The democrats are pledging bipartisanship (like all politicans do in that position), but rarely, if ever, happens.
