:) Hi all,

I wondered if anyone could give me some info on B5 visas? At least I think that's what they are called.......

Read previously somewhere, about investing in areas of high unemployment/poverty where you invested a minimum of $500,000 into a business.

Looking for more info on this - hope I have this correct :( and that I haven't just dreamed it up.......

many thanks
Carol

Hi Carol

Stephen Parnell at Lynz Bank tel 561 392 8044 ext 6 e mail sparnell@lynxbanc.com should be able to enlighten you. He is british been here donkeys years, he knows all about it and has helped brits. He also can tell you about the ones that are not the real thing. I think there is one at moment in seattle. Stephen is recommended on other sites for the british and we used him 2 years ago to do our mortgage and he was very helpful not pushy and very professional.. good luck

Hi Carol and :welcome:

Cannot remember what the visa is called for a minute and so will have to look it up

You are correct you can invest $500,000.00 in a low employment area and get a green card . There are other conditions such as you must employ 10 staff I think

This would be a good question to post for attny LaVigne

It has been discussed at length on various forums over the last 6 months, and I still haven't met anyone or conversed with anyone who knows anyone who has been successful with this EB-5 visa.
It began looking simply like "buy your way in" and it didn't matter what you do when you get here, but if you read the whole application form and adjoining notes you can see that there's more to think about than just coming up with the dosh.
I've said it before and I'll say it again here ...a warehouse in Seattle wouldn't be my half million.

Carol, Why would you want to 'give' someone you didn't know $500,000 of your (I assume) hard-earned money, particularly if it was the US government, just to get permission to enter the USA and, subject to a qualifying period as a 'temporary immigrant' the possibility of a Green Card ?

Is it REALLY that important to you ?

Isn't that really a very high price - given the fact that the 'investment' may not produce a return to you and, if you ever try to get out of it and get your money back (if you can) you may then lose the Green Card that you had paid so dearly for ?

And, of course, that $500,000 'investment' is quite seperate to the costs of housing, living, working and schooling in the USA. They all come on top !

I am surprised that nobody who has already discussed this topic (and who will know much more than me about it) over recent months has come onboard this thread yet. JulieC for instance.

But, given the level of trust that I have for the US, there is NO way that I would give them a half million bucks of my money - just to open the door to 'their promised land'.

But, there again, as many of you know, I am biased (or is that just objective ?). ;)

Nope, not biased. I'd agree with "objective" on this occasion. It appears we actually agree on "something" Peter.

(Fanfare!)

Of course there are many better ways of gaining status in the US with $500,000 in pocket. Quicker, safer and proven routes.

This topic has been discussed before and like many on here I have not found a single scheme to be true, as one of our attorneys has said publicly, "show me one person where this has worked" very few of the allotted visa are taken up, a couple of hundred out of thousands available. That should tell you how difficult it is.
From a little research, All of the schemes we looked at involved large up front fees (50K+)to consultants and attorneys non of which are repayable on failure.

Neil

NB IF anyone does know someone who is here on a no work EB5 scheme I would be delighted to meet them

Hi Carol

I have read the replies and agree with Fl Peter, Bobby etc.,

If I had that amount of money to invest I would be very dubious to part with it.

To obtain a visa you should have funds which are committed or in attorneys escrow account, before you apply for visa, so a very high risk

A question for attorney from me would be

If I pay $500,000 into your clients trust account, and you go bust, die or dissapear is there any govenment protection for myself and money, in this unlikely event?
