Sorry to be negative but how long's a piece of string?!!
Friends of mine are in the same situation - nobody seems to be able to, or want to tell you how long - their take is that it will happen when it happens. Sorry to sound so defeatist - keep your chin up, try to be positive and we will all be rooting for you, somebody deserves some luck!

Hi all,
Thank you for your reply.
Emmalee thanks for the date its noted, well i am not sitting around here waiting, my VA seems to be out of touch with whats the latest time line.
I have bought my business 100% for cash on the advice of my VA and it has not made the processes any quicker, i have owned it for 11 months now, still had the whole 221g more info thing its a Joke!!
Do not try this its not worth the extra burden.

What kind of an immigration advisor 'advised' you to do that of all things ? Could the word 'rose' figure in their name at all ?
Having bought the business BEFORE you have a visa to legally emigrate and operate it doesn't impress the Embassy Consular Officer at all !

No " ROSE" did not have anything to do with it, but it was a well known company.
Trouble was it was a great business and i did not want to miss out on it, i new the FULL history.
Has any group tried to get the British media involved in the issue?

Hi and :welcome:
Were you advised to get a B visa and come to the USA, then once in the USA file for E visa? If so did VC file application in both London and Texas?
If you are in the USA on B visa, this will not allow you to draw a salary from you business you have to get visa approved first
Fl Peter does a great deal with regards to rasing awarness and writng articles for Emigrate USA. I am sure he can fill you in

Hi Tiktak
I did the same thing, bought the biz 100% cash before i got the visa, it was deal not to be missed, actually it seems that the embassy arent bothered whether you own it before or have it on 'hold' while you apply, as long as you and the biz give the figs and facts they want (which they change regularly) most of the brits waiting on E2 that i know have already purchased as the sellers were not willing to wait up to 6 months for the money...and do you blame them?????????
Good Luck

Hi all,
We went for the E visa its realy the only one you can get these days, options are limited.
I do the travel thing every 90 days which has been a pain.
Thing is when you do find a 100% genuine business you have to grab it with both hand or it will be gone, 99% business for sale out there dont seem to be run very well , the books keeping is all so slack and as for cash deals that can't be proved, my advice take what you are told with a pinch of salt.

Hi Tiktak
I really hope things work out for.
Can i ask what you do re the 90 days travel, is this on an ordinary visa waiver what we use for holidays? if so how long do you have to stay out of the states before re-entering on this visa waiver
Thanks

Hi Annie,
when i stay in the US i stay approx 85 days and not a day more, leave and then return within a week or maybe two, i have a genuine reason to keep heading back, in a year i have only been asked more than a cpl of questions in which i tell them i am in the system but own a business and have to keep returning to check that everything is ok, i have had with me all my paperwork incase but never needed it.
I am a single person not sure they will be happy if i had a family with me
as you are allowed as many visits as you like on business

Annie,
I have friends on the E2 process who leave every 89 days stay in UK for a weekend and then return, they never had secondary questioning either, unlike me!!!!
It seems to be a matter of who you get when you go thru the gates!

Do you know if there are any actual guidelines on this?
Also does this apply even if you have no business to keep an eye on..
Thanks

Annie,
its always a risk, the guidlines are that you should spend more time in your country of residence than in the USA, ie/ no more than 6 months in every 12! i also know of someone who ran a biz in the USA (Florida to be exact) for 7 years purely on visa waiver, some days he went back for the day and never got caught! he is now on L1 as he was able to run both countries until they were both succesful biz and no one ever knew...LOL
its a risk, like russian roulette!!! if you get someone who has had a bad day you are shafted!!!!
It also depends how you word you replies to their questions!!!

Excuse my ignorance, but i thought that you had to put down a minimum cash deposit of approx £100k. is this incorrect?
If so, what is the recommended deposit to put down?
I know it would depend on the asking price, but for instance if i wanted to buy a business between $200 -300, how much do you think we should put down in cash
Thanks for any advice

I do not think any amount of money is set in stone, execpt must be committed, am I correct?

Hi All,
A business broker would ask for no less than 10% deposit, but in some cases this would not be enough, i would suggest " the less the better " just in case things go wrong.

Hi guys, I have just filed my E2 application with London. To be honest I was a little optimistic about time scale for this !! I never knew how long it would take and the approval % from London being so bad !.
Is there any good news for a new E2'r ??
Thank you

Hello Lisamac and :welcome: to expatsvoice
Thanks you for joining and supporting our site.
I do hope that your application goes through quickly and without any hitches. The American embassy has at least stated that they expect an 8 week processing time frame by the end of this year, lets hope so
You may be lucky as they had made this statement but my fear is that the existing applications may not fall into this
Could you please go to the introduce yourself section and tell us a little about yourself so we can get to know you better

Hi
Please keep your chin up, hopefully the waiting will soon be over.
We are hopeing to write to the embassy in the new year, especially if they have not kept to their statement saying they will get to eight weeks processing time by the end of the year

Update on E2 waiting times (or is it?)
My friends are waiting on an E2 and have just travelled back to the UK to renew VWP (again) their application was finally submitted (after 3 returns) 3 weeks ago!
Apparently their VA has been advised by the embassy that their appointment will be thru before xmas, so they have stayed in the UK to wait it out (they have already bought the biz over here so it is being left with staff).
Will update you if they do actually get it! if they do then this proves that apps are not dealt with in any kind of order, doesnt it?

Hi
we have just heard from a client that their attorney received an email (we have the a copy of it so its true) from the embassy saying that their interview list is full and that these clients will be in the "next batch" invited... Is anyone in the "current Batch" so we can try and figure out when the next batch will start

Hi All,
Well it will soon be the Holiday period and it will all come to a grinding halt, thats if its moving at all, i have not had any contact from my VA or embassy, weeks are passing so i think if anyone thinks they are going to get notice soon then they are in for a shock.
Do not see how they can drop the wait time down by new year, extra staff already delaying the process not speeding it up....lol, unless they are starting another embassy how can this be done, many have said how long it takes to get through the door at the Embassy never mind the waiting room shuffle.

Hi,
my friends are supposed to be in 'this batch' and are still waiting patiently, only a quick email from their VA to say it should be anytime (fab!), looks like they will be spending the busiest time of the season away from their new biz!!!

Hi
I really just cannot get my head round the fact that renewals HAVE to be carried our in home country, this never used to be the case
Last night I was interviewed by Mike Groagan of The Reporter, he said, madness complete madness
He agreed that it make sense to apply for the very first visa in home country but thereafter should be done in the USA so as not to cause any disruption to the running of the biz
