Excellent article in todays daily mail - hits all the right buttons on Britons and their changing attitudes to Florida - from 9/11 security - to attitude of immigration when you arrive thru ticket prices and villa owners getting hammered with property taxes etc - worth a read - can anyone scan it onto here - not sure which section to post this to Gwen (new member)

See: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=420245&in_page_id=1811

It's a direct 'lift' from the Orlando Sentinel article of yesterday. The same quotes, the same people quoted. But, hey, that's how lazy journalists get their money !

What a shame that they only picked up on one sentence of my answers to their question as to why tourism to Florida had declined !

Only problem of course is - when its printed in the Uk rather than the US- it then puts more people off coming to florida and also buying homes there!! Gwen

See my posting from yesterday and that carries the full Orlando Sentinel article.
Peter - I don't think there is one single clear answer as to why people are not travelling to Florida/US in as bigger numbers. The Fortress America - increased security mentality is one reason, the attitude of the 'greeters is another (you can have increased security measures with pleasant people), high airfares is another, cheaper holidays in europe is another, Disney, et al becoming stale and less good value for their higher entrance fees is yet another. The fear about hurricanes is still fresh in a lot of peoples minds. There is another important reason that many may not state and that is a more deep seated attitude toward America in general. Nigel Worrall is right, if the exchange wasn't what it was/is I would really worry about the EU's coming to USA. Lets face it, there are many places much nicer by way of scenery than FL, there are many places with a better climate, not everyone wants MM, and how many pairs of discounted Nike trainers can people possibly want!!

The high entrance fees is a big facter in Americans not going so often..unless using one of the TV offers...I know we don't go to the parks unless we have a yearly pass...which we would not have if we did not have a home there and visit often....which is getting to be a bit of a pain...America has so much to see and offer in other parts of the country I have no idea why people would want to go back to FL year after year....we had tons of Brits on the Cape this year...so maybe they are not leaving America...just going somewhere else....I can't wait to move so I can travel again...I like FL but mostly to live in not visit...

As its a non-immigration, non-expats news piece, and not specifically to do with EV, i'll put it the immigration articles section.

Thanx for sharing :)

Hi Gwen

Yes I agree, I just wish they would publish this type of story in the USA then hopefully one day, maybe, just maybe, Bush will actually do something to help the travel market. He really does need to get real and in touch with whats really going on

Hey ladies, I'm puzzled by your comments.

This UK article WAS published in the USA - in fact the Mail (and the Sun) lifted it directly from the Sunday Orlando Sentinel this last weekend in a much fuller version. It was a US article originally !

It was highlighted by Chris on this Forum. Didn't you get to read that item ?
