Apparently Americans are cutting back on holiday gifts and decorations this year for everyone except their pets!

Is everyone here cutting back or is it Christmas as usual? We are only buying for our kids and our grandchild and with a $40 per present budget, not for anyone else or for each other. Our present to each other will be paying our property tax bill so we dont get evicted!! Fortunately dont have a pet!

Christmas is a want not a need...so we will just spend the same as normal...we have most of our gifts anyway because we buy them in the sale maybe a year before...

I'm close to becoming overcome by fumes as I make a HUGE, glass-fibre, fully illuminated Humbug to hang outside.

It looks as though Hurricane Paloma won't be coming to Florida so I don't anticipate having a tree in the house...

Kids are and should be the only consideration at Christmas - especially the youngest ones who you can't make understand about the financial situation. Everyone else should be happy with being reminded that they are loved - after all that is the greatest gift of all and doesn't cost a dime! IMHO

Me and hubby never buy gifts for each other for Christmas..or many birthdays for that matter..I'm not really into getting gifts...I like giving more...but I have found a lovely Indian arrowhead necklace in silver this year not real Indian sad to say ...I mostly wear Native Indian jewelery if any ..I am an honour member of a tribe in Maryland...and have been since I was 12...I also do a bit of work for Native American kids..who have always got little if anything for Christmas..so we are working to change that...so with every gift we give this year..we are putting away a few $$ to buy a gift for a Native child...
