Hi all, Wonderful forum i gotta say, I am a member also on britishexpats.com, I have a question about B2. Via search on this forum, I found where it says that the POE gives 6 months as the minimum length of stay on the I-94. Is that still true?

Hi and :welcome: Ash. I think you may be getting confused with the length of stay allowed on a B2. You can also get an extension of stay by applying to USCIS as long as you have a valid reason.

POE officers have total discretion as to what they give. The usual length on a B2 is six months, and that is the maximum not the minimum. Usual is the pertinent word here.

I filled out a few details in my Profile, but here's me:
I am indian, lived in the US 1997 to 2005, first on F1, then on H1b. my wife is also the same. we quit our jobs in '05 and moved back to india to take care of my family business. Subsequently, I have gotten a 10 yr B1/B2 visa, wife: b2 as my dependent. I do travel frequently to the US on business. Last yr i took my wife and US Citizen daughter along with me and the POE gave my wife 6 months I-94, while i got a 3 month I-94 (i told POE i was there on work and my wife was tagging me along). Anyways, thats my background.
Now in Dec, we are planning to go spend 4 months in US, we have friends and family and we r thinking of going to canada for a month, but not sure yet. I dont have much work, its gonna be pretty much a vacation trip. So, if i tell the POE that we are here on vacation and if he insists, we show him our return tix, will he give 6 months. my previous trips have been around 1 month long each. Also, do i need to take financials of some sort.

I don't understand how your wife goes as a dependent on a B2:confused:
When we enter on a B2 we are automatically given 6 months even if we only go for a few weeks.

When he entered he declared he was using the B-1 part
his wife did not ..
