If anyone has a multi format VCR player that will play my PAL tapes and they would like to rent or sell to me their player, please let me know. If you are happy to rent it, I am happy to pay you a security $$$ and I am happy to collect it and deliver it safely back to you. Basically, I recently had a freakish accident (breaking my foot and having 10 stitches) which means I won't be skiing this winter afterall and so I need something to do.:(

Hi Em,
I don't have a VCR player at all at the moment. I didn't think that you could play a PAL tape on a NTSC player?

Thanks for the sympathy Lorraine, but it was my own fault and stupidity. We're also now not going to Mexico before Christmas so I have loads of spare time on my hands. A painful lesson and thankfully I have health insurance which covered all of the $2k bill appart from my $100 contribution. A good reminder of why anyone living out here needs health insurance, you never know when you will need it!

Paul,
Thanks, I would like to take you up on your offer. I am going to 'record' the PAL tapes onto my PC so that I can edit and then burn to DVD. I will call you over the next couple of days and arrange a time to collect.

Hi we waited 6 weeks for ours to be underwritten and the exclusions are hideous and there is no way we should have the exclusions. I am trying to sort it but I am sick to death of fighting with every thing over here. I seem to spend my life on the phone on hold, leaving voice mails and going through piles and piles of paperwork. No one does what they say they are going to do, and also no one calls you back unless there is something in it for them.
Oh well that was my little moan for the day. I am waiting for the second time for a fitter to turn up at my house due here at 9 this morning it now 11.30m still not here, drives me insane. LOL and it tooo early for a whisky xx

I've had little problem with tradesman in FL...apart from my bug people...they never show up on time....
I had a guy come to look at putting in a new AC system in MA and he never got back to me...which saved us a tons of money because we never upgraded...
But in the USA its all deadlines and forms and unanswered questions....we were on hold for 3 hours to Bank Of America...the other week....and we still have a problem with them...

We have Golden Rule Health Care, which is part of United.
As far as we can tell - and I will definitely tell you all if it's otherwise - my whole medical experience will only cost us the $3000 deductible. That was a deductible for the whole family for the year - well actually 3,650 but we had used some on odd doctor's visits. I have only had a couple of bills but my first MRI was $2,457, reduced to just over $1000 and coming off the deductible.
Our payments for 4 of us are about 480 a month. Have to see what happens next year though - that will be a pain if the premiums go skyhigh.

Hi Zoe, good to see you back on the forum and getting better :)
If the moderators will allow it perhaps Zoe and David (or anyone else who is happy with their ins) could post the details (if any) of the person who arranged your health insurance for you?
We are here on a E2 and would like to get some insurance arranged now that we have been here awhile. I prefer recommendations because there are SO many insurance brokers out there that you don't know who to trust.
Thanks in advance.

Lorraine - Steve and I are hopefully coming next week, but will have to see how I am on the day.
My main problem is the tablets I am taking to keep swelling down - Steve says so my brain doesn't swell!!! They are pumping neat adrenaling through my body, which is stopping me sleeping for more than 2-3 hours at a time. My appetite is great though and my weight isn't going up!! So I feel as though everything is a bit false at the moment. I am reducing the dose on Friday, so hopefully that will be a bit better. I never really know if I'll be tired or not. You mustn't stop these tablets straight away, you must wean yourself off them, or you get really sick. I was in hospital for over 4 days, which I've come to realise was a long time - you're usually thrown out for everything after 24 - 48 hours. I suppose it was because the leakage from my nose was actually brain fluid and if that became infected, I could get meningitis!! I drove for the first time today and went to Walmart, but am now absolutely knackered, so am just going to sit in front of the TV. I was going to watch the Lakeland Parade, but too tired.
We got our health insurance through a broker in Lakeland - we chose him as he was in the Chamber of Commerce and we had just joined. He put us straight onto Golden Rule and it seems to be working so far. If anyone wants his name and number pm me.

Hi Zoe,
I can remember meeting you with Steve & your 2 children at Gaylord Palms a few years ago before you moved out here. I was shocked to hear of your condition but am very pleased to hear that you are on the mend. Unfortunatley, your condition serves to remind anyone living out here (without health insurance) why they need some cover, if only it be 'dissaster coverage'.
Hope your recovery is speedy and without complication and make sure that Steve pulls his weight!

Hi Lorraine,
Actually, like Zoe, we have Golden Rule (a united healthcare company). www.goldenrule.com tel 618 943 5305. I did a lot of research before signing up with them and they seemed to be one of the better providers with a reasonable $$. I did invite a couple of brokers to see us, but one never turned up and the other had as much product knowledge of healthcare as my 9yr old does. There is also a website which does the 'broker thing' for you.

Paul,
Sorry for not communicating with you over the VCR etc. I have actually managed to buy a used Samsung worldwide VCR which play greats and so won't be needing the use of your equipment. Thanks again for the offer.
