Obama says he hopes to help 'reboot America's image around the world'
By Christi Parsons, John McCormick and Peter Nicholas
Los Angeles Times, December 10, 2008

Reporting from Chicago -- Barack Obama says his presidency is an opportunity for the United States to spread a message of tolerance, starting the day of his inauguration and continuing with a speech he plans to deliver somewhere in the Muslim world.

And when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20, he plans to be sworn in like other presidents, using his full name: Barack Hussein Obama.

'I think we've got a unique opportunity to reboot America's image around the world and also in the Muslim world in particular,' Obama said Tuesday, promising an 'unrelenting' desire to 'create a relationship of mutual respect and partnership in countries and with peoples of goodwill who want their citizens and ours to prosper together.'
. . .
He would not commit to specific plans on matters as varied as free trade, unionization and illegal immigration. Instead, he said, his nominees and advisors are studying the issues and will report back with recommendations.

Asked if he would support the extension of the fence between the U.S.-Mexico border, Obama deferred to his nominee for the Homeland Security Department, Janet Napolitano.

In similar fashion, he sidestepped questions about whether he would move quickly on promises to rework the North American Free Trade Agreement or push the so-called card-check law that would make it easier for unions to organize.

I am not being racist when I say this, but why is the world wanting to cow tow to the Muslim world? America should be trying to help it's image in all countries - just look at how they treat us on arrival - even if you are only there on holiday, let alone how they treat us when it comes to (I wont say emigrating because I really do not think you can emigrate to America as you can to other countries). People on E Visas are there under sufferance and you haven't actually emigrated as in the true meaning of the word, doesn't matter that you have spent probably all the money you have in the world to get there. The "powers that be" should take a look and listen to the real people to understand the reality.

If you take Obama re-booting analogy to relate to a computer, then with the 'chip and hard drive being replaced in January, then I would agree it would be opportune to re-boot. However, I think America needs a fundamental change of its operating system to work effectively and be understood by its 'users' around the globe. The current way the USA conducts itself, is not unlike Windows Vista - fundamentally flawed with a lot of bugs in it. Also like Vista, it has security issues.
As for the Muslim Vs Christian - they have been at one anothers throats for hundreds of years. Some would say we are in a modern day crusade. For the most part, most 'normal' people on both sides live in harmony. It is the extremists of both sides that are the problem.
